Interview with
our Manager
“FERM O FEED’s strength lies in the fact
that we control the entire supply chain, up
from production to delivery.”
“We export organic Fertilizers to more than 60 countries
worldwide, mostly in Europe, Latin America, Africa and the
Middle- and Far East. More and more products are used in retail,
but the bulk of the organic Fertilizers is used in professional
agriculture. Due to the growing focus on sustainable products,
and thereby the increasing demand for organic Fertilizers,
FERM O FEED extends its product range further to meet the
needs of the customer. FERM O FEED’s strength lies in the
fact that we control the entire supply chain, from production
to delivery. The organic Fertilizers not only are all produced
in-house, but we also transport our products to the customers
ourselves. FERM O FEED can guarantee certain aspects of
delivery and production, where others cannot. Because FERM O
FEED sticks to its core business – product innovation in organic
Fertilizers – we have extended knowledge of the market and
organic Fertilizers in general. When our (potential) customers
need advice, we turn out to be not only a supplier but also
Sandy soils poor in humus can’t
retain nutrients.
Effect on the cation exchange capacity of
the addition of humic acid to the soil.
If one of these nutrients does not have an adequate
supply in the soil you begin to limit your yield or the
ability of your plant to thrive. Ferm O Feed Organic
Fertilizers provide all elements for any plant to grow.
Our organic Fertilizers improve the health and well being of the host of
your cultivation: the soil. Our pellets de-block and regulate the elements
in the soil, and you will notice the consequence: an excellent result on
crop yield and quality.
Decomposing or mineralisation depends on temperature,
moisture and aeration of the soil. In spring, when
temperature rises up, mineralisation will speed up when the
plant grows. With a low C/N ratio, the pellets free nitrogen
when microorganisms decompose the organic material.
These organisms will also decompose organic material with a
high C/N ratio. Whereas an ordinary organic Fertilizer is used,
plant growth will be negatively affected by low nitrogen
availability, but during the decomposing or mineralisation
process of our organic Fertilizers the opposite happens:
nitrogen will become available instead. Microorganisms
demanding air from outside decompose the organic material
in our products. This will aerate the soil and stimulate root
activity. Organic material is also important for moisture
holding in the soil and the prevention of erosion. Our pellets
will absorb three times its weight while breaking down.
Organic Fertilizers, from FERM O FEED, are an easy to use
basic organic Fertilizer with proven yield. The content of
stable organic material is combined with a relatively high
N-P-K content. Additionally, it's a 100% natural product that
maintains trace elements, very important for enzyme and
photoelectric functions of crops.
Organic Fertilizers are easy to apply in the field. Our pellets
can be spread over the land using the same machine that
is used for the appliance of mineral Fertilizers. Our organic
Fertilizers are less dense than mineral Fertilizers.
in the soil and the prevention of erosion.
Production
Facility
Our Organic Fertilizers are
produced by state-of-the-art
technology under control of a
highly skilled production team.
The raw material is brought to
our factory by trucks. Trained
workers will control the raw
material before it enters our
installations. If the material
does not fit our standards it will
not be accepted.
Once in our factory, we mix the various raw materials.
After the first processing step containing mixing and
neutralizing, the product enters the composting area.
By controlling the oxygen level and temperature
the product is composted in order to obtain a stable
product. Two kilo of starting prime product will yield
one and a half kilo of organic Fertilizer. When the
product leaves the composting process it is dehydrated
and physically processed. The product is now pressed
in a pellet, to be easily applied in the field. Organic
Fertilizers can be spread over the land using the same
machines as for mineral Fertilizers.
A special sieve is used before packing the product
preventing particles smaller than 2 mm (dust) to be
incorporated in the commercial product. Organic
Fertilizer can be packed in plastic bags of 10 kg,
20 kg, 25 kg or in big bags of 500 kg till 1.250 kg. Stored
in a cool and dry place Organic Fertilizer can be
maintained for min. 5 years without loss of quality.
The production capacity is 60,000 tonnes (output)
organic fertilizers per year
8

Our main brands are: Fertiplus ® , Topmix and Activit.
Beside we also have available Doferm and Topfert.
Organic Fertilizer applied in the soil has a regular function for
the soil minerals. When you have problems of blocked minerals
you will notice an excellent result on crop yield and quality.
You will see both, a de-blocking and a regulated effect at the
same time. Farmers have noticed this effect on their invoices
on fertilization products. Elements do not get lost by leaching
and they are not blocked but available to the crop.
Organic material is also important for moisture holding in the
soil and will prevent erosion. Organic Fertilizer absorbs three
times its weight in moisture while the pellet will break down.
Farmers have noticed this when they apply the product
localized filling a hole. After the growing season a network of
roots is observed in the place where they brought in organic
Fertilizer of Ferm O Feed. This is also the best way to show that
organic Fertilizer does not burn the roots.
Our products are not only a source of equal in importance
elements (macro and micro nutrients) needed for a strong
and healthy growth of any plant, but also a source of organic
matter to the soil. They increase the water retaining capacity,
restores depleted soil to a healthy PH balance and increases
beneficial microbiological activity.
Special attention should be paid, that chicken manure is
considered as "hot" and must be processed before it is added
to any soil. This will avoid "burning" and over-fertilizing. Pellets
are the most comfortable and safe way using chicken manure
as Organic Fertilizer.
Control Union
The organic Fertilizer for biological cultivation is produced
from chicken manure from free-range hens from CATcertified
poultry farms. The ingredients of Organic Fertilizer
for biological cultivation comply with EEG regulation EEC
834/2007 889/2008 appendix IIA. For the production and
marketing of this Fertilizer, Ferm O Feed is monitored and
inspected by Control Union Certifications under company
number 800837.
The quality of a fertilizer directly depends of the material
from which it is produced. The raw materials used in making
our fine Organic Fertilizers come from selected farms that
are strictly monitored for hygiene, quality and continuity.
The state-of-the-art production process, which takes place
in our ultramodern factory, is continuously checked and
monitored. Any germs or weed seeds are killed through our
special conditioner and the special process of fermentation
and drying. The final product is overseen by an independent
and accredited laboratory. This guarantees its high quality.
Humic and
amino acids
Organic Fertilizer contains approx.
20% humic and amino acids. These
organic acids are formed during the
composting process of the prime
material.
Not all organic material is converted into these acids during
composting, most of the material humifies when it is put into
the soil. This is a slow process during which the humic acids
are released gradually. The presence and formation of these
acids is the basic part of organic fertilizers and essential for
efficient crop cultivation. These organic acids form chemical
complexes with inorganic soil particles, resulting in the
release of blocked nutrients in the inorganic particles such
as phosphorous.
The clay-calcium-humus complex has an important function
in the soil. This complex has the ability to absorb anions and
cations and facilitates the release of these ions again into
solution, making them available to plants. The same complex
maintains water, the clay-calcium-humus complex can absorb
water until 15 times it´s weight. Resulting in a moist soil that
prevents dehydration, protects the soil from erosion, ensures
bacterial viability in the soil and ensures water and nutrients
uptake by the crop. This humus complex also reacts with
tricalcium phosphate and sesquioxide complexes, whereby
locked and immobilized phosphorous in these inorganic
complexes is unblocked and released into the soil.
There are two types of humic acids in nature; humic acids and
fulvic acids. Fulvic acid molecules are smaller than the ones
from humic acids and fulvic acids dissolve better then the
larger humic acids. The logical step in nature is that humic
material, fresh organic substance decomposes by bacterial
action in humic acid and this will be transformed into fluvic
acid.
Naturally this material decomposes slowly, humic- and fluvic
acids are formed slowly so the soil is feeded with these
essential acids constantly. Our Organic Fertilizer contains
a lot of proteins. The proteins are broken down during the
fermentation process and are transformed into amino acids.
The amino acids activate the bacterial life in the soil and
stimulate the root activity of the crops.
The development of the micro-organism in the soil is
essential as this aids uptake of nutrients in plants.
10

Traceability
Ferm O Feed has introduced a
traceability system. In practice, this
system means that the materials
used in the production process and
during logistic operations can be
followed step by step.
The system enables us to monitor the quality from the raw
materials to the product delivered to the customer. The
system works as follows: during the production process codes
are assigned to each production batch of organic Fertilizer;
the batch number then follows the ingredients/product on
the journey to the place of administration. Samples are taken
from each batch, and these samples undergo a general quality
analysis. The results of these analyses are linked to the batch
codes. If necessary, additional and more specific analyses
can be performed on request, either during the production
process or while packaging.
An example of such an analysis is testing to ensure that the
product is free of pathogens. In this case the batch number
is also printed on the delivery receipt and the invoice. This
form of traceability is an extra service which we offer to
our customers on request. The Eurogap standards and
the requirements of some distribution chains can require
registration of the products used during the production
process. This often includes documenting the origin of
the organic material and its sanitary quality. With a good
traceability plan, like the one offered for the Organic
Fertilizers, the fruit and vegetable producer can demonstrate
the composition, origin and sanitary quality of the organic
fertiliser used. This is particularly important with regards to
the absence of pathogens in organic Fertilizers and for the
natural origins of the product. At this time, a number of food
distribution chains in the UK have already made Ferm O Feed’s
traceability plan a requirement to accept the use of Organic
Fertilizers as an organic material. Ferm O Feed can provide 2
methods of traceability.
A good traceability plan
is very important for
the fruit and vegetable
producer.
The first method, which is also the most complicated and
most expensive, is to follow the product from the organic raw
material to the final product. We only offer this service to our
customers if this strict requirement is necessary. After all, the
quality control during the production process already provides
sufficient guarantees. The product from each production
batch is analysed to check its composition and confirm the
absence of pathogens. Then the organic Fertilizer is stored in
bulk together with the other production batches. However,
Organic Fertilizer that does not meet the defined quality
standards is never allowed into this storage area. The second
method of traceability is to analyse samples during the
packaging process or during transport to the customer. These
analyses are carried out in accordance with the instructions of
the Organic Fertilizer customer. In this case, batches of Organic
Fertilizer are made, and a sample is taken from each batch and
then analysed.
A second sample is also taken from each batch, and stored for
a certain period of time for any check analysis. Thanks to this
second option combined with good quality control during the
production process, most fruit and vegetable buyers accept
the use of Organic Fertilizers.
Loss of organic material
in the soil
A theoretical estimation to give an idea of the yearly loss organic material.
Principles
• Cultivated topsoil: 25 cm (0,25 m)
• Surface: 10.000 m 2
• Organic matter: 2%
• Specific gravity soil: 1.300 kg / m 3
• Mineralisation factor: 3% year
• Organic matter FERTIPLUS 65%
Cultivated soil
• 0,25 m x 10.000 m 2 x 1.300 kg / m 3 = 3.350.000 kg
• Total organic matter in soil: 3.350.000 x 2% = 65.000 kg
Yearly breakdown of organic matter
• 65.000 kg x 3% = 1.950 kg
Conclusion
Although Organic Fertilizer is not only a substitute of organic
material it can clearly be used for that. Organic Fertilizer
should be used on base of crop needs in basic Fertilizer and
organic matter replacement in your field.
Most important
parameter on soil fertility
is organic matter
Replacement of organic matter
• Crop rests in the field: 750 - 1.250 kg
• Netto need of external organic material:
700 - 1.200 kg
• In terms of Organic Fertilizer 4-3-3 65 OM:
1.100 - 1.850 kg
Organic Fertilizers
The excellent shape of the pellets
means that Organic Fertilizers of Ferm
O Feed can be very well distributed
with the aid of a fertilizer spreader.
Other alternative way of spreading is
by hand or with the use of a sewing
machine. Spreading the fertilizers will
optimize the incorporation into the soil.
And therefore the soil structure.
Liquid fertilizers
The advantage of a liquid fertilizer
is that you can adjust directly by
cultivation. Especially in the development
of deficiency symptoms it is
necessary to react quickly. With a foliar
fertilizer there are immediately visible
results, with fertigation results are
visible within a few days.
Topmix-LIQ NPK 2-1-8 can be spent
on the soil hardening the crops. Root
formation or Flowering can be induced
by a foliar spray.
Organic Fertilizer
4-3-3
Organic Fertilizer 4-3-3 is a well-known 100% organic Fertilizer pellet, ecologic and hygienic.
It can be packed under different brand names. The organic material in this excellent, natural
plant Fertilizer contains mostly humic acid structures, humic acids benefit soils in facilitating
its nutrient availability, they release gradually the minerals present in the ground and
therefore, minerals become more available for absorption by the roots of plants.
Organic Fertilizer correct application prevents symptoms of deficiency in the
crops during the growing season. This positive effect of organic Fertilizer
means a considerable saving in mineral Fertilizers, and a reduction of mineral
Fertilizers application in the soil, is good for the environment and help
preventing soil alkalisation.
Furthermore, using a Organic Fertilizer leads to an increase in the microbiological
activity in the soil. Organic substances are broken down by the soil life into humic
acids and amino acids, during this process, oxygen is required and attracting
air, so that the agricultural ground becomes airier. Air, water and elements are
equal in importance for any plant to grow. Besides, suffocation of the roots is a
problem easily prevented by maintaining a spongy soil.
Organic Compound
Fertilizer 4-2-10 for biological cultivation
Organic Compound Fertilizer 4-2-10 is a natural Fertilizer, specially developed for use in
crops that require a high level of potassium, but little chlorine. This natural Fertilizer pellet,
enriched with a natural source of potassium, contains high-quality organic matter allowing
a constant potassium availability during the entire growing season.
The potassium source is low in chlorine, which makes from the final product an
extremely suitable natural Fertilizer for crops that cannot tolerate potassium
chloride Fertilizers. Our natural Fertilizer, is therefore an excellent alternative
among other potassium Fertilizers and it contains all trace elements
Advantages
• Minerals such as nitrogen, phosphate and potassium became available to
the plants gradually and as they are required, so that there is no risk of
the minerals being washed away.
• Use of the pellets results in airy soil, so that the roots absorb more
oxygen and the crop grows better.
• A large proportion of the product consists of protein, made up of
amino acids. These amino acids are gradually released as a result of
the breakdown of the organic structures, making the plants stronger.
Organic Compound
Fertilizer 4-10-2 for biological cultivation
Soil exhaustion often brings the production level of valuable agricultural and horticultural
land to an unacceptably low level. The organic Fertilizer pellets change this radically, as the
product contains not only the nutritional minerals required by the plants, but also a large
quantity of organic matter, which is necessary to maintain the humus content of the soil.
In short: the soil Fertilizer pellets make an optimum contribution to the soil and the crop.
Organic Fertilizer 4-10-2 is an organic pellet
Organic Fertilizer 4-10-2 has been specially developed for use in phosphatepoor
and strongly alkaline soil. The combination of a high-grade organic substance
with a source of phosphate that is released gradually guarantees the best
possible availability of the phosphate to the plants.
Fertiplus ®
Citrus
4-3-7 + extra Fe en Mg
Fertiplus ®
Citrus is a product specially tailored to the cultivation of citrus fruits such as
oranges, tangerines, lemons and grapefruit. Because of the high yield in citrus, the removal
of nutrients is high. To retain these high yields, sufficient nutrients have to be constantly
added. An advantage of using Fertiplus Citrus is that you don't need additional fertilisation
with other products to achieve the same results our fertilizer does. Fertiplus Citrus stimulates
soil activity and allows incorporation of the trace elements.
Special to this Fertiplus® pellet, is the extra iron (Fe) it contains. Translating
this to the plant, the iron guarantees that the plants are well able to absorb
sunlight. In combination with extra added potassium (K), this results in a strong
and healthy plant with increased vitality and resistance. This is noticeable
through the plant its attractive dark green leaves and the firmness and bright
colours of its fruits.
Advantages
• No additional fertilisation needed
Fertiplus ®
Olive
4-3-7 + extra B
Through additions to our proven successful fertilizers, we have been able to develop a product
that is directly applicable for olive cultivation. Our Fertiplus Olive contains extra boron (B).
This encourages soil activity, and helps the trace elements to be better absorbed into the
soil. In addition to boron, we added extra potassium (K) to the product. This triggers the
growth and development of the fruits, resulting in healthy plants that are less vulnerable
to weather influences and diseases or plagues. It also significantly improves the quality,
format and tastiness of the fruits.
Fertiplus ®
Crumb
Fertiplus ®
Crumb is a granulated fertilizer. The basis for this product is our high-quality
pellet. Following the same production process, the raw materials are selected with care and
precision and then subsequently dried, conditioned, powdered, and eventually pelletized to
ensure optimal quality and soil incorporation.
After being pelletized, the pellet is crumbled and the broken pieces are broken
another time. By crumbling rather than crushing the pellets, and through
multiple sieves, all dust in the product is eliminated.
Due to its small size, Organic Fertilizer Crumb can be easily spread with a
fertilizer spreader. Besides standard usage, Organic Fertilizer Crumb is well
suitable as base fertilizer in potting soil. Because the product is crumbled, the
product is better mixable into potting soil-type of products. Another advantage
of using Organic Fertilizer Crumb in combination with potting soil is that with
already limited water emission the Crumb unites with the potting soil in which
it is applied.
1 Imaos Marcelinos, Almeirim, Portugal
Mr. Marcelinos started using Ferm O Feed Organic Fertilizers on his tomatoes a long
time ago. Together with his brother he runs a 110 hectare horticultural company.
Nowadays he uses Organic Fertilizers on almost all his crops like; courgettes,
grapes, carrots, broccoli and so on. He has one location where he applies 1250 kg
of Organic Fertilizers once a year. Besides Organic Fertilizers only a very small
quantity of soluble Fertilizer is added through drip irrigation. Although no
common chemical Fertilizer has been used, the harvest of broccoli and the
harvest of courgettes has increased each year.
2 Agriland, Libanon
Since 2001, our company is maintaining strong relations with Ferm O Feed,
our organic amendment supplier. The purchased product Fertiplus was applied
to both open field and protected plantations and provided high quality and
efficiency. It becomes a well known product in the Lebanese market and is used
to improve soil quality, increase available nutrients to the plant and improve both
quality and quantity of the fruits.
Over the last years we build with Ferm O Feed on a long term based and reliable
relationship which results in a healthy and sustainable business partnership.
4 Manuel Martinez - Constanza, Dominican Republic
Manuel Martinez is the farm manager of a 72 hectares farm in the mountains
of Dominican Republic. The main crop is potato and as the season runs all year
round. Therefore all stages of the potato growing can be seen at the same moment.
As they cut the potato seedlings they only add the Fertiplus during the
second drilling; this in order to avoid the risk of burning of the seedlings on the
cutted sides. The use per hectare is 64 bags 25 kg of Fertiplus (1600 kg/hectare)
using only Fertiplus. When they mix the Fertiplus with mineral fertilizer, the use
per hectare is 40 bags 25 kg of Fertiplus (1000 kg/hectare). After already a few
weeks a significant difference can be seen in the size and intensive green color
of the leaves of the potato plants. After harvest potato sizes are significantly
larger compared to their production without using Fertiplus which translates into
higher yields for the farmer.
5 Mr. Truc – Bao Loc – Londom province, Vietnam
50% more yield by using Fertiplus ®
Currently, Vietnam is the largest coffee producer worldwide. Most coffee is produced
in the region Londom, near Dalat. In the 70’s, this area suffered significantly
from the war with the United States, who at that time repeatedly used the defoliant
“Agent Orange”. Not only did this substance cause tree and shrubs losing their
leaves, it also induced contamination and poisoning of the soil.
Through applying Fertiplus, this poisoned soil becomes fertile again. Because of the
very poor quality of the soil, the results of using Fertiplus in this region were even
better than anywhere else. Generally, it is advised to use Fertiplus twice per year,
1kg. per tree.
6 Mr. Chi-Shiang, Ho-Ping Village, Taichung Country, Taiwan
Fertiplus ® works so fine!
The plantation from Mr. Truc is about 8 hectares. Contrary to the opinion used Mr
Truc two times 500 grams organic fertilizers Fertiplus per tree per year. The pellets
are mixed with the soil in August (during the rainy season) and in October. The
pellets are put on top and not acted upon. Watering is done manually. Besides
Fertiplus Mr. Truc also used cemical fertilizers. The flowering of the trees starts in
January, and the beans are harvested in November and December.
7 Du-Sang Won, Hongcheun-gun, Kangwon-do, South Korea
Mr. Du-Sang Won has been started with using Fertiplus on his ginseng seedlings
in October 2004. While the sand is very coarse, the seeds are sowed directly in
the ground. Mr. Du-Sang Won applied Fertiplus about 1500 kg/hectare.
After half a year Mr. Du-Sang Won finded out that the new plants are stronger and
greener than before without using this Organic Fertilizer. Further on germination
is increased from about 50-55% till 95%.
8 Project 2SCALE, Sèmè-Podje, Benin
In cooperation with the 2Scale project Ferm O Feed has done various project in
East African Countries. One of the trials took place in Benin. Fertiplus was used
to grow carrots. A dosage of 1250 kh/hectare was used and compared with a
dosage of 5000 kg chicken manure. The yield of Fertiplus was 30,5 ton / hectare
against 20,6 ton / hectare. The uniformity of the carrots was excellent as well as
the length and diameter.
