Spark_Lab<br />
In partnership with the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts (PICA)<br />
Year of partnership commencement: 2009<br />
Spark_Lab, informed by the Growing Future Innovator’s Scoping Study, educates for<br />
innovation through the contemporary arts across the school curriculum.<br />
During the pilot (2010–2013), PICA<br />
partnered with a diverse group of<br />
schools and engaged with more<br />
than 75 educational institutions to<br />
develop skills such as creativity,<br />
self-efficacy, leadership and risk<br />
propensity, to foster a more<br />
innovative workforce.<br />
2014 marked the beginning of the<br />
implementation phase of<br />
Spark_Lab. The Spark_Lab<br />
activities include 60 school tours<br />
and 18 Spark_Lab workshops,<br />
particularly the Prehistoric<br />
Soundscape in partnership with<br />
WA Museum and the Metropolitan<br />
Redevelopment Authority;<br />
Sounds, Symbols and Science<br />
in collaboration with Scitech;<br />
climbing workshops associated<br />
with the exhibition Kinesphere;<br />
Chunky Move Professional<br />
Development with Warnbro<br />
Community High School and<br />
AWESOME Arts school tours.<br />
The Noongar Doll Workshops<br />
book, featuring the work of the<br />
Roseworth PS students, was<br />
published for distribution to the<br />
school and stakeholders.<br />
Warnbro Community HS is<br />
Spark_Lab’s partner school in<br />
2014/15. Their specialist programs<br />
include advanced technology<br />
and design, adventure recreation<br />
and creative arts. A second<br />
partner school will be confirmed<br />
to commence in 2015. Partner<br />
schools will design and implement<br />
their programs by working with<br />
PICA artists and projects.<br />
In 2015, a Spark_Lab Alumni<br />
program will be developed to<br />
ensure continued engagement<br />
with innovative ideas. An<br />
evaluation strategy will be<br />
embedded in the schools program,<br />
in consultation with partner<br />
schools.<br />
