October Newsletter 2011
Worthy Sirs;
Thank you Mark and Dennis and members for the
two honor guards in one day, also Mark, Manny, Harry and
Bill for keeping me on a straight line.
Please read the newsletter for upcoming events and
honor guard requests. We have a chance to participate in a
mass with a Cardinal and our Bishop, a rare occasion for
most of us.
Another upcoming event wives appreciation dinner
honoring our wives and also wives of our deceased Sir
Knights. This is an excellent chance to invite prospective
Knights and their wives to show them what the fourth degree
is all about, especially the wives. If you know of a wife or a
Sir Knight that you have not seen at this event personally
invite them.
Next is clergy night which is always a special and
big event and remember to invite that prospective Knight
and any male of the parish.
All these events are important. Let’s try to fill the
Knights of Columbus hall and Crowley hall. It’s a challenge
I put out to all of you. It is important for the growth of our
order both third degree and fourth degree.
As we move forward let’s take that challenge and
give every Knight that opportunity to become a Sir Knight.
Sir Knights please try to make as many of these as possible
to show your support for the wives and our priests.
As always, my phone and my E-mail are open for
suggestions and comments, positive or negative. I do look
into everything put in front of me.

4 th Degree Information:
1) Future newsletters will be posted on the
Bishop Kucera Assembly 595 website
http://www.nebraskakofc.org/kc4th595/ and
notification will be sent via email that the
newsletter can be viewed before meetings.

2) Lou Gasper talked about the Silver Rose
Program, and how the Assembly could help
with its time in Nebraska next year.
3) There were 23 members transferring to the
new Wahoo Assembly.
4) Joe Erion was elected by the officer’s to
replace Ken Sabata as the 3rd yr. trustee at
the last officer’s meeting.
5) Lou Gasper asked Mark Main to compile a
notebook with all of the details from past
Assembly events to help the future officers
plan programs better. Bill Bradley is
supplying lots of great information.

6) Gary Taylor reported that St. Patrick’s
council will be hosting a Major Degree on
Sunday, October 23, 2011. Please come and
watch the new format for the Third Degree
7) John Fishbach gave a dynamic report on the
Supreme Convention, which he attended in
Denver earlier this month(August).
DUES: Sir Knights (and wives) Please pay your 2011
dues now. Please remit to those Sir Knights below.
If your wife pays your dues, please
remind her that you will be receiving
two (2) dues notices. One for your
council and the other for the 4 th Degree.
Ask her to write another check for the
dues to the 4 th Degree. Annual dues are
$15, but if you are a member of the
Chalice Club the dues are $25 minimum.
Please let Mike Wernke or Bill Bradley
know if you want to belong to the
Chalice Club for an additional $10/year.

If you need help with a Parish Honor guard, please volunteer
with your parish contact to help with these beautiful
ceremonies. “Please arrive a half hour early for instructions.”

Tuxedo Information: Best Formalwear located at 19th
& N Street’s owner confirmed that he & staff will do
their best to outfit any candidate (or Sir Knight) with the
best tux for the least price, or if a request is made for a
lower quality tux for the least price.
So, if you have a candidate, please communicate to
him it would be in his best interest to go and
purchase his tux as early as possible to assure
they do not run out. Best Formalwear has started
a sheet for the Knights of Columbus and has
entered the requirements for tux, shirt,
cummerbund, etc.
DEATH OF A SIR KNIGHT OR SPOUSE: The
assembly does not always get notified of the death of a
Sir Knight or spouse. We are requesting all Sir
Knights, the Parish Contact, the Grand Knight, and the
Financial Secretary to help us. If anyone hears of the
death of a Sir Knight or spouse please notify one of the
officer's immediately.
“If you are standing Honor Guard for a rosary,
please try to arrive 1 hour before the scheduled
start time, if possible. This allows the
commanders to change guards every 5 – 10
minutes.”

“The Commander's now have the new 4th degree Honor
Guard pins, and the pins will be given out as we do H.G.'s.,
with the option to purchase for $3.50, otherwise it will be
on a loan basis for each Honor Guard.”
