Fishing with soft lures (Ripperz or Guzzlerz) requires a completely different 

approach and way of thinking to the way you fished in the past. In fact so 

different are the techniques and methods used that you can pretty well forget 

everything you ever learnt about fishing with other styles of lures as little of it 

applies to fishing soft plastic baits. 

Not only will you learn to fish differently, you will start to ‘think‛ differently 

about your own fishing. You will become more of a ‘hunter‛ of fish rather than 

a ‘passive‛ catcher of fish. Through the process of fishing with soft plastics you 

will become a much better fisherman, and find your fishing a lot more exciting, 

challenging, and rewarding, and as a bonus you will catch a lot more fish than 

you ever did before. 

This year sees Atomic expanding into Hard Bodied lures (Hardz). The lure that 

helped me into the ABT Grand Final the first time I used them.

This very successful soft lure has quickly become a must have lure for bream and even the bass guys are having 

success on this very versatile lure. Both sizes have gained popularity for offshore fishing with Snapper and Jewfish 

taking liking to this lure. This lure can be rigged a number of ways from surface unweighted rigs to deep jigheads. With 

all the moving parts in this lure fish slow when the bite gets tough or fast to get those reactive bites. This is one of the 

most versatile lures on the market today. 

The Jerk Minnow when fished as recommended produces a wounded Fish 

type action. Best fished so that the bait twitches or falls horizontally with 

an extra slow retrieve .This stick bait features a stomach envelope and 

dorsal hook slot for ease of rigging. A stand out bait for Snapper or Bream, 

Flathead, Mangrove Jack & Trevally. 

This is an irresistible bait for many species, particularly, bream. In fact, so 

successful is the ‘tiny’ 2” bait that if you had to choose just one soft plastic 

bait to go fishing with – this would be it. It’s over-sized curl tail provides enticing 

action even on the slowest of retrieves, and works extremely well when 

jigged vertically. Regardless of rigging used, this bait is always best fished 

very slowly, and often gets the bite when all else fails. 

With its variable action paddle tail this bait can be fished at a variety of retrieve speeds. This imitation minnow 

bait is ideal for bass, barra, cod, yellowbelly, or in saltwater for salmon, snapper, bonito and kingfish. When 

twitched it looks like a ‘nervous’ darting bait and strikes can be savage because of this. With the new Core 

Shot colours this is a very popular bass bait and surface bream bait. 

The shads are a perfect bait to use for deepwater fishing for bass, barra, 

flathead, snapper, trout – just about anything that swims. Retrieved slowly 

on the bottom its ultra-slim profile produces excellent side body action and 

it has a very life-like baitfish appearance. This bait can be cast and retrieved, 

jigged, jerked off the bottom, and even slow trolled all with devastating 

results. Try the 6” for larger fish like Barra or Jew 

This bait looks absolutely ‘awesome’ in the water. 

It is usually rigged on a Worm EWG HW 5/0 or 6/0 

and cast un-weighted because of it’s weight and long 

length. Allow it to sink slowly as a lot of strikes come 

on the drop before twitching the bait to look like a ‘nervous’ 

baitfish throughout the retrieve. 

This ‘special’ bait has been designed to imitate a small widebodied 

baitfish like a bony bream which bass love. It’s ribbed 

body produces a rippling water action and sonic vibration 

and can also be used to store spray-on scent. Also a killer on

Guzzlerz contains a biodegradable soft material called BioBait® that contains natural ingredients with the look and feel of a conventional 

soft plastic lure. Guzzlerz continually release scent into the water at a much higher rate than traditional plastic. It is loaded with naturally 

derived fish attractants. There are no fish repelling chemicals within the bait, therefore fish bite it and do not release. It contains no
