CIBA VISION EXCELLENCE BEYOND OPTOMETRY<br />

SCHOLARSHIP CODE NO <strong>655</strong><br />

REGULATIONS:<br />

1. The Scholarship shall be k<strong>no</strong>wn as the Ciba Vision Excellence Beyond<br />

Optometry Scholarship.<br />

2. One Scholarship will be awarded annually, for a period of one year, and will<br />

be of the value of AUD 3,000.<br />

3. The Scholarship will be awarded to the BOptom candidate who has paid<br />

the fees, or arranged to pay the fees, for full-time enrolment in Part V of the<br />

Bachelor of Optometry degree.<br />

4. The Scholarship is tenable by domestic and international students.<br />

5. The basis of selection will be academic merit and evidence of <strong>excellence</strong><br />

or all round achievement in fields outside Optometry. This may include,<br />

but is <strong>no</strong>t restricted to: volunteer work, sporting achievements and artistic<br />

<strong>excellence</strong>.<br />

6. The Scholarship will be awarded by the University of Auckland Council<br />

upon the recommendation of a Selection Committee comprising the Head<br />

of the Department of Optometry and Vision Science, a staff member of the<br />

Department of Optometry and Vision Science and one representative of the<br />

Do<strong>no</strong>r (appointed by sponsors or trustees).<br />

7. The Scholarship will be paid in two equal instalments: one in the first<br />

semester and one in the second semester.<br />

8. The Scholarship may be concurrently held with any other award or grant as<br />

long as a) the terms of that award or grant permit and b) the University of<br />

Auckland Council is informed and approves.<br />

9. The University of Auckland Council, in consultation with the Do<strong>no</strong>r, has the<br />

power to terminate or suspend a Scholarship if it receives an unsatisfactory<br />

report on the progress of a Scholar from the Head of the Department of<br />

Optometry and Vision Science.<br />

10. The University of Auckland Council is <strong>no</strong>t obliged to make an award if in any<br />

year there is <strong>no</strong> candidate of sufficient merit.<br />

11. The University of Auckland has the power to amend or vary these<br />

Regulations, in consultation with the Do<strong>no</strong>r, provided that there is <strong>no</strong><br />

departure from the main purpose of the Scholarship.<br />

12. 1Applications by way of a form along with CV and supporting documents<br />

close with the Scholarships Office on 15 January in the year of the award.<br />

Assistance<br />

The Scholarship was established in<br />

2011 and is funded by Ciba Vision.<br />

The main purpose of the Scholarship is<br />

to recognise a high-achieving student<br />

entering their final year of the Bachelor<br />

of Optometry degree who is also an<br />

all-round achiever.<br />
