Family
Support Service
The Kennedy Leigh Centre has a Family Support Team whose aim is to provide
practical and emotional support for children and their families.
Our Team includes qualified Social Workers, Family Support Workers,
Counsellors and a Transition Social Worker. All skilled in working with adults,
children and families. We provide confidential advice, care and support as
responsively as possible, which can include signposting and home visits. We
also work with other agencies, as needed, to provide our families with a
comprehensive service.
Work may focus on the uniqueness of bringing a new baby into the world,
enabling parents to understand their child’s development and behaviour at
every stage and upwards, to the complexities of living with teenagers.
Members of our Children Family Support Team can assist the whole family
through issues such as abuse, bereavement, bullying, low self-esteem, family
crisis, including family break down, domestic violence, personal loss or peer
group pressure, parenting concerns, divorce and separation, financial hardship
and can provide direct work with children and parents. The team also supports
families whose child has a disability or learning difficulty.

8. Our family services include children and family support, social work, an
inclusive nursery, adoption and special educational needs services.
9. Our Learning Disability Services include education, after school clubs & holiday
schemes, transition, short breaks and respite care, supported living and
residential care.
10. Norwood’s Learning Disability Services also include lifelong learning, work
skills & employment and life skills.
The Transitions service can assist young people age 14 to 19 with a disability
moving from children to adult services.
Where we cannot help a person directly, staff from our team will act as
advocates, ensuring the family receives the right services from whoever can
help. A duty social worker is available every day to take new referrals and offer
advice on the telephone.

Volunteering
at the
Kennedy Leigh Family Centre
Volunteering has been an essential feature of life in Norwood since its very earliest
days. Volunteers are a vital additional resource for us and we choose to involve
volunteers because we value the uniquely special contribution they make in
helping the people we support live the lives they want.
Our volunteers support us in all areas of our many different services.
Working with children
We have volunteers who work in our family centre support groups, our educational
services, the Kennedy Leigh Café, our nursery or directly with families.
Specialist support
We have skilled professionals who provide therapeutic services in art, sport,
speech, dance and music.
Administrative support
Many volunteers provide us with support in all our office environments by carrying
out a variety of tasks.

The Norwood Nursery is an inclusive provision registered for 30 places and
welcomes children from two years old. It is committed to promoting the values of
a Jewish way of life, including celebrating Shabbat and Jewish festivals. Every
child will be supported to make progress at their own pace in order to fulfil their
potential.
The Norwood Nursery offers:
Early Years Foundation Stage managed by a qualified teacher.
Extra support for children with special or additional needs.
A sensory room and soft play area.
The

A kosher snack and lunch – freshly prepared in the on-site café.
Direct access to an outside play area.

BINOH
Binoh is Norwood’s multi-professional special educational needs service.
Services can be accessed at the various Norwood Family Centres or, when
appropriate, at a child’s nursery or school.
Binoh provides professional support to children up to the age of 19 who have
additional or special educational needs, including early years support, learning
and development, language and communication, motor impairment and
emotional, social and behavioural difficulties. Our team of professionals at Binoh
includes educational psychologists, specialist teachers and Rebbes, advisory
teachers, learning support assistants, speech and language therapists,
occupational therapists and art therapists.
For pupils who are finding it difficult to cope in their mainstream schools or who
may not be in school, Binoh has mainstream pupil support units in both the
Norwood Kennedy Leigh Centre in Hendon and the Somers Centre in Hackney.

We operate on a first come first serve basis.
Weekly stimulating and fun session for you and your pre-school children aged 0 – 5 years,
to enjoy learning through play. We welcome families to use our soft play ball pond and enjoy a healthy
snack. Activities may include painting, arts and crafts, play dough and themed play.
DRUGSLINE
Drop-in Service
Thursdays
6pm - 8pm
Norwood Drugsline’s weekly drop-in service provides friendly,
confidential support to people of all ages who are directly or indirectly
affected by drug abuse, alcohol, gambling or other addictions.
If you are affected by any of these issues or are worried about a friend
or relative’s addictive behaviour, pop in for a friendly
confidential chat.

help and support parents with the challenges they face in raising happy and successful children.

young people with disabilities, aged 5 - 18 years.
Unity provides activities in order to enhance a child’s experiences
whilst meeting and making new friends.

An opportunity for mothers who have children with special needs and disabilities to talk
about their feelings, receive both emotional and practical support and exchange information.
A team of experienced staff and volunteers provide a safe and stimulating play environment
for any accompanying children under five years of age who have special needs. Siblings are
welcome.
Children enjoy singing and have the full use of the Family Centre’s facilities, including
the soft play ball room and sensory room.
Yoga sessions for each child with special needs, provided by a specialist practitioner.
