wes Anderson – Fantastic Mr. Fox – 20th century Fox<br />

Wes Anderson was born in Houston, Texas and attended college at the University of<br />

Texas at Austin. He is also the director and co-writer of Bottle Rocket, Rushmore, The Royal<br />

Tenenbaums, The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou, The Darjeeling Limited and the short Hotel<br />

Chevalier.<br />

Pete docter – Up – Pixar Animation studios<br />

Pete Docter, the director of Monsters, Inc. and Up, started at Pixar Animation Studios in<br />

1990 as the studio’s third animator. Docter helped develop the story and characters for<br />

Toy Story, for which he also was supervising animator. He was a storyboard artist on A<br />

Bug’s Life, and wrote initial story treatments for Toy Story 2 and WALL•E. Docter has been<br />

nominated for four Academy <strong>Awards</strong>®, including Best Animated Feature (Monsters, Inc.)<br />

and Best Original Screenplay (WALL•E).<br />

christopher Miller and Phil lord – Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs –<br />

sony Pictures Animation<br />

christopher Miller and Phil lord wrote and directed Sony Pictures Animation’s<br />

hit 3D comedy, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs. Miller and Lord started their<br />

careers making animated films together at Dartmouth College, catching the<br />

attention of the Walt Disney Company, where they created, executive produced,<br />

and directed the MTV animated series Clone High.<br />

Hayao Miyazaki – Ponyo – studio ghibli<br />

Hayao Miyazaki was born in 1941 in Tokyo. As a student at Gakushuin University, Miyazaki<br />

became deeply interested in children’s literature and read a wide variety of books written<br />

for children from all over the world. A superb draftsman, Miyazaki co-founded Studio Ghibli<br />

in 1985 and has since directed eight highly awarded feature films. He has also published<br />

several books of his poems, essays and drawings, and designed buildings (including the<br />

Ghibli Museum, Mitaka, in Tokyo’s Inokashira Park).<br />

Henry selick – Coraline – laika<br />

As a boy, Henry Selick drew all the time – pictures of eagles, horses, lions, dragons and,<br />

later, Jaguar XKE sports cars. He loved unusual and scary animation, like “Night on Bald<br />

Mountain” from Fantasia, or The Legend of Sleepy Hollow; he especially loved the Ray<br />

Harryhausen stop-motion features. To study animation, he attended CalArts in Valencia,<br />

California. When he’s not creating other worlds, he spends time in the real world with<br />

his wife and sons.<br />
