2009
For The Seattle Foundation, 2009 was a year of transition.
With new leadership and a powerful new vision from the board,
we set out a course to become a 21st century foundation known
not just for its outstanding philanthropy, but also for its leadership
of informed civic engagement and action.
The transition began with the departure of our president and chief executive officer,
Phyllis Campbell, who was named chairman of JPMorgan Chase’s Pacific Northwest
region. Her six years of exemplary management at The Seattle Foundation were defined
by the development of the Healthy Community framework and the continued strong
growth of our assets. Phyllis is a one-of-a-kind leader, and on behalf of the board we
thank her for indelible contributions to the Foundation and wish her great success.
The leadership transition presented the board with an opportunity to assess and
redefine how we carry out our mission. In order to more fully support our donors in
meaningful, informed philanthropy, the board concluded that The Seattle Foundation
must be at the forefront of civic dialogue and a stronger force in addressing our
community’s most pressing problems.
Our goal is to make The Seattle Foundation a place where people who care about
building a healthy community and where all contributions—ideas, opinions, efforts
and funding—come together to make this place we call home a better place for today
and tomorrow. We welcome all of you to be a part of our exciting work.
We especially thank the donors for their generosity, compassion and determination
to build a healthy community for us all. The opportunity to serve you and support
your philanthropy is an honor for the board and staff of The Seattle Foundation.
