FUNCTION NEWS
Star-studded lineup
for footy launch
Port Adelaide premiership coach Mark
Williams and Geelong premiership captain
Tom Harley will headline a highly
credentialed panel of experts at the MCG
Footy Launch Luncheon on Wednesday
March 27 in the Members Dining Room.
The enigmatic Williams (right), son of
South Australian football legend Fos
Williams, played 201 VFL/AFL games for
Collingwood and Brisbane between 1981 and
1990. During a 274-game, 12-year coaching
career at Port Adelaide, he led the Power to
the minor premiership in three consecutive
years, finally yielding the club’s first AFL
premiership in 2004. He is now a
development coach at Richmond.
Harley led Geelong to its first premiership
in 44 years in 2007 (against Williams’ Port
Adelaide, Harley’s first club), and became a
dual premiership captain after their heartstopping
victory in 2009. In between, he
achieved All-Australian honours, won the
AFL Players Association Best Captain Award
and has since been inducted into the Geelong
Football Club Hall of Fame.
Williams and Harley will be joined by
journalist Sam Lane and broadcasting doyen
Bruce McAvaney to discuss footy’s hottest
issues on the eve of the MCG’s opening game
of the season. There’ll be no shortage of
topics!
Hosted by Tim Lane, the luncheon includes
a three-course meal with beer, wine, sparkling
and soft drinks, plus plenty of giveaways.
Bookings opened on February 4 and tickets
were available as we went to press. Check the
website or ring the club for the latest news on
availability or to make a booking.
More than 140 members took to the
Kingston Heath layout for a challenging
round on February 5.
Mark Dunstan was the clubhouse
leader at the conclusion of the morning
However, he was narrowly defeated by
