THE FINAL MONTH - JUNE
The end of the school year is close. - BUT - Not over. We would like to encourage students to finsih
strong. Any encourgement you can give your student from home is appreciated. All students have
exams to write and your prayer support for them is needed as they study for exams and finish all their
class assignments.
RERORT CARDS ISSUED
Report cards are issued this year on June 29 between 10:00 and 1:00 pm. Parents or students can
pick up the report cards at the school. Remember that fees for lost or damaged textbooks must
be paid before report cards can be issued. Our school office closes on June 30 at 4:00 pm for late
collection of report cards.
SCHOOL FEE COLLECTION CHANGES FOR 2010-11
In the past SCA Student Fees were due and payable on October 1st. The following changes have
been made to our fee collection schedule: Due at registration time Aug 24-25.
SENIOR HIGH:
1

This year with the introduction of our new administrative software, PowerSchool, we will be making
numerous changes to our registration procedures. We will be having Registration Days for Grade 10
- 12 students on August 24 and 25.
Grade 12 August 24 9:00 – 10:30
Grade 11 August 24 10:30 – 12:00
Grade 10 August 25 9:00 – 11:00
On that day high school students will get their timetables and textbooks, make necessary
changes and pay school fees. Students that are not able to attend should come in at their earliest
convenience understanding that the later they wait, the more likelihood that classes will be full.
Parents that chose not to pay their school fees at Registration Days will receive their fee sheets on
the first day of school.
JUNIOR HIGH:
Grade 7 - 9 students will still get their timetables and school fee sheet on the first day of school and
their school fess will be due on September 15.
2010/2011 SCHOOL CALENDAR
should focus on the November week as opposed to February
DO HARD THINGS CONFERENCE:
We are hosting a province wide Christian Conference on June 7th, based on the book, Do Hard
Things. This book was written by two nineteen year olds and is based on the idea of Christian young
people who are rebelling against the low expectations of their culture by choosing to do hard things
for the glory of God. The twins who wrote it are coming to our school, along with their father, for a
day long Conference. The price for the tickets is $35 US per person if you order the tickets by May
31st and $40 US after that. Our grades 9 - 12 students will be attending the Conference at no cost to
them. If you know of any other schools that are interested or if any parents are interested in coming,
you can register online at:
http://www.therebelution.com/conference/
Grade 7 and 8 Students will have regular classes that day.
BAND NEWS
Upcoming Events
Our final concerts will be taking place in just over a week on
Tuesday, June 8th here in the SPAC auditorium. The Jr. High
concert will start at 6:30pm and the Sr. High Concert will start
at 8:00pm. There will be a short intermission in between with
refreshments being provided. We’re looking forward to performing all the great music we’ve been
working on over the last few months.
Please note that Jr. High students need to be at the school in concert dress (white tops - no t-shirts
please, black bottoms - including socks/shoes) by 6:00pm to warm up and tune. Sr. High students need
to be at the school in concert dress (all black) by 7:30pm to warm up and tune.
A Big Thank You
We’d also like to say a big thank you to the anonymous donor who so generously responded to our
call in December this year. Out of the funds provided we were able to purchase two great specialty
instruments that would have otherwise been beyond our budget. Look for the new wooden bassoon at
this year’s final Sr. Band Concert. The bass trombone may also make an appearance at our Jr. Band
Concert! Thank you again for your generous donation - our students appreciate the wonderful new
instruments!
Next Year’s Band Tours
Please watch your e-mail for upcoming information about potential tours for both the Jr. and Sr. Bands
for next year. Some preliminary information relating to destinations, dates, lengths and costs will be
sent out shortly. I would appreciate your feedback about any and all aspects of our tour, particularly in
the area of cost. Please send your comments to me via my school e-mail account (accessible from the

school website).
Joy unspeakable is the only way I can describe the result of being involved in SCA Parent's in Partnership. What an
wonderful group of parents you have been to partner with!
Thank you to all of you who have prayed at home for the school and to those of you who have faithfully met on
Monday mornings. God has answered many prayers in amazing ways. Thank you to all, who have baked, cooked
and encouraged the SCA staff in other tangible ways. Thank you as well to those who have prepared and delivered
meals to family's going through difficult times. It is all of these efforts that make the SCA community what it is. Many
have been blessed because of you!
As the school year comes to a close please pray that all would have the energy to 'finish well'. On behalf of Parents in
Partnership, have a wonderful summer.
In His service,
Parents in Partnership
APPENDIX:Frequently Asked Questions
What happens when we pull our child from school for a vacation?
During the school year some families take vacations which result in students missing school. We wish to accommodate and cooperate as much as is practical but it is important
for families to realize that missing a lot of school could impact student learning. For your information, here are several of the guidelines we follow at SCA:
Teachers are not to be expected to produce course notes or do extensive preparation for a student prior to a vacation, rather the vacationing student must arrange for a classmate
to keep a record of notes and handouts during the vacation. If possible:
- teachers can provide textbook pages and textbook assignments to be covered for the duration of the vacation.
- teachers can provide worksheets they have available at the time of the vacation.
- students must arrange alternate dates for assignments, quizzes, and tests they will miss. The expectation is that these will be due very soon after returning to classes
following the vacation.
Teachers are not to be expected to catch up a student after school following a vacation. Certainly teachers are willing to help students but the burden of catching up rests with
the student.
Final Exam Policy
If a student makes plans to leave school before final exams occur, they are expected to complete the exam once they return (even if it is in the summer). Only students leaving
early on mission trips will be allowed to write finals early.
Is SCA a Closed Campus?
Elk Island continues to promote safe and caring schools. With strict requirements now being placed on volunteers in all EIPS schools, we have adopted a policy to close the
campus to visitors other than volunteers and parents during the school day. Students from other schools should not visit without prior approval of the school administration.
What are the Bell Times?
Secondary students are permitted to enter the building at 8:25 a.m. and go to lockers and classrooms at the 8:35 bell. Devotions begin at 8:46 at which point all students are to
be in first period classes. The noon recess is from 11:44 a.m. to 12:31 p.m. Students are dismissed from last class at 3:20 p.m. and the busses leave the school at 3:26 p.m.
Signing in and Signing out?
When students arrive late for school, or need to leave during the day, they must sign in at the school office. Students arriving late or leaving during the day need to have
parent permission. A note or a phone call from the parent/guardian is required when signing in/out at the school office. This helps the office note whether the late is excused
or unexcused. Please review the school handbook on our website to review excused and unexcused lates.
What is the Policy for Absences, Lates and Truancy?
If a student is absent, parents are to notify the school office (in advance if possible). If a student is late, they are required to sign in at the school office before going to class. If
the late is unexcused, the student will receive a noon detention. Should a student be late for a fourth occurrence in a particular class, an after school detention is issued through
the Office. Students who skip class are issued detention(s) after school. For the full policy, please see the handbook on the SCA website.
What is the Policy on Electronics and Cell Phones?
Students are NOT to use cell phones or other electronics in class or during assemblies. Any electronics used (including phones that ring in class) will be confiscated. Only high
school students are allowed to use cell phones on breaks.
What about Students Leaving the School Grounds?
Junior high students are NOT permitted to leave the school grounds during the school day (including the noon recess). The exception is when a parent takes the student to lunch
or an appointment. Senior high students may leave the grounds during the noon recess. Returning late results in a detention and could result in this privilege being revoked
for the student. Grade 12 students on spares may leave the grounds (except during chapels).
What is the SCA Dress Code?
The goal of our dress code is to champion modesty and avoid extremes. We would appreciate it if families would make sure that their children comply with the code in order
to minimize the uncomfortable confrontations at school. Among other things, students are to remove headwear (hats, head scarves, hoods, etc.) while in the building, whether
in class, on a spare, or in the hallways between classes. Girls must ensure that their tops have raised necklines and covered midriffs. Piercings are not allowed for the boys and
only in ears for girls. Tattoos are not allowed. Our entire dress code can be read in the School Handbook on our website. If you are in doubt concerning any of our standards,
please check first with the school office.
