Moodyʼs baseball program year
in and year out has been amazing. But
a team cannot function on its own. They
must have a great coaching staff to lead
them in the right direction. Coach Corky
Gallegos has been coaching baseball for
the past 18 years.
“I had a good experience in my
youth,” coach Gallegos said. “Both my
grandfather and my dad played semi-pro
baseball, so I grew up around all of that.”
He has spent the past 15 years
coaching and teaching here at Moody. As
the seasons go by they always have their
ups and downs, but somehow always
manage to pull through.
“We have a lot of ceiling, a lot of
room to get better,” says Gallegos of their
curent season. “If we can get through to
the playoffs and peak, weʼll be good.”
This year the team has many strong
players and coming together they have
created the strong defense that Moody
has. Their only weakness at the moment
is their inexperienced pitching staff,
which is very young. But for sure there is
no doubt in Coach Corky Gallegosʼ mind
that they wonʼt clench a spot in the playoffs
like they have in the past.
Moody is known not only for their
great baseball squad and amazing coaching
staff, but also for their roaring fans
that flood the stands with blue and gold.
Continuing a Tradition...
Gallegos has seen
all types of teams
throughout his
coaching career
They have spirit, yes they do.
The fans are known to get to the games
hours before the first pitch, waiting in
lines, hoping to get the best seat in the
house.
“The fans have always been
a big weapon of ours,” said Gallegos
talking highly of his fans for the program.
“Other teams have a hard time
performing in front of such a large and
rowdy crowd.”
Before and after each game
the one thing that the team and coaching
staff make sure to do is pray all
together.
“We pray as a team everyday,”
he said. “Throughout the years I
have seen many players find the inner
strength they need through God.”
He still has faith in his team
and always will no matter what others
have to say after his program this
year.
“I think this is the most resilient
team that Iʼve ever coached. Facing
all the adversity that has come their
way they just keep grinding it out. The
best is yet to come,” Coach Gallegos
said.
