Per Angelstam, Department of Conservation Biology at the Swedish University of Agricultural<br />
Sciences, WWF and Department of Natural Sciences at Örebro University, Sweden<br />
Per Angelstam’s research interests lie in the fields of landscape ecology, studies on the consequences of<br />
forest fragmentation on wildlife, and conservation biology with work on biodiversity maintenance and<br />
forest landscape management. Since 1990, Per Angelstam has been using the steep north European<br />
forest and land use history gradient from Scandinavia to Russia for studies of landscapes and their<br />
species composition. He is also involved in the European Union BEAR project. Finally, Per Angelstam is<br />
involved in the practical implementation of research by synthesizing existing knowledge, training forest<br />
and land use managers in ecological landscape planning, and educating students in landscape ecology.<br />
Petri Ahlroth, Finnish Ministry of Agriculture and <strong>Forest</strong>ry, Finland<br />
Dr. Ahlroth is currently working at the Ministry of Agriculture and <strong>Forest</strong>ry. His job is to compile<br />
research related to conservation of forest biodiversity and to write a draft of a new related research<br />
program. This work is supposed to focus the use of resources at the conclusion of the FIBRE program.<br />

Stan Boutin, University of Alberta, Canada<br />
Stan Boutin has 23 years experience in the field of ecology and environmental biology, with four years<br />
direct forestry experience while working for Alberta-Pacific <strong>Forest</strong> Industries Inc. as a Research Ecologist,<br />
Program Leader, and Director of Science and Technology. Recent research work has focused on<br />
integrated landscape management issues directly related to cumulative effects and the influence these<br />
effects have on Alberta’s environmental and economic sustainability. Currently, he holds an NSERC<br />
Industrial Research Chair in the Faculty of Science at the University of Alberta. He is also a Research<br />
Area Leader for the <strong>Sustainable</strong> <strong>Forest</strong> <strong>Management</strong> <strong>Network</strong>, one of Canada’s <strong>Network</strong>s of Centres of<br />
Excellence. Stan Boutin has authored over 80 refereed publications and 12 book chapters. He also coedited<br />
“Ecosystem Dynamics of the Boreal <strong>Forest</strong>: The Kluane Project,” a book that summarizes a largescale<br />
terrestrial research project in the boreal forest of the Yukon. Stan Boutin was co-winner of the<br />
Publication of the Year award in 1995 from the Wildlife Society for his collaborative work on a 10-year<br />
project designed to test hypotheses relating to the organization of the boreal forest vertebrate community.<br />
Finally, Dr. Boutin is also the Associate Editor of the Journal of Wildlife <strong>Management</strong>.<br />
