1597 Adamas SMT<br />
Ever play a grand piano with <strong>the</strong> lid lifted? A similar<br />
sonic “openness” is how players describe <strong>the</strong>ir first SMT<br />
experience.<br />

That’s largely due <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> material we use <strong>to</strong> make <strong>the</strong><br />
soundboard of <strong>the</strong> SMT - unidirectional carbon fiber actually<br />
have a grain direction, much like a fine piece of spruce.<br />
And while unidirectional carbon fiber shares many of spruce’s<br />
favourable acoustic characteristics - lightness, vibrancy - it’s<br />
much stronger. A thin slice of fine spruce is comparatively<br />
weak. It has <strong>to</strong> be heavily braced <strong>to</strong> keep <strong>the</strong> <strong>to</strong>p from caving<br />
in <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> stress of <strong>the</strong> strings. Unfortunately this structural<br />
bracing also kills sound. Not so with <strong>the</strong> SMT. Unidirectional<br />
carbon fiber allows us <strong>to</strong> build an instrument that virtually<br />
eliminates <strong>the</strong> weak notes and dead spots that you’ve come<br />
<strong>to</strong> accept as ‘normal’.<br />
