<strong>James</strong> <strong>Cerretani</strong> <strong>Named</strong><br />

<strong>PTR</strong> <strong>Male</strong> <strong>Player</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Year</strong><br />

Hilton Head Island, SC - - Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Tennis Registry (<strong>PTR</strong>) will present its annual<br />

awards this week during <strong>the</strong> 2012 <strong>PTR</strong> International Tennis Symposium. The event,<br />

which includes 50-plus on court and classroom presentations for tennis teachers and<br />

coaches, a tennis trade show and tournament is being held February 24-28, 2012, at <strong>the</strong><br />

Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress, in Orlando, Florida<br />

<strong>James</strong> <strong>Cerretani</strong>, <strong>of</strong> Reading, Massachusetts, has been named <strong>PTR</strong> <strong>Male</strong> <strong>Player</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>Year</strong>. Currently ranked #60 in <strong>the</strong> world, <strong>Cerretani</strong>’s career high is #45.<br />

A graduate <strong>of</strong> Brown University, in 2002 <strong>Cerretani</strong> helped <strong>the</strong> Men’s Tennis Team to its<br />

first ever Ivy League Title, defeating Harvard in <strong>the</strong> final. He was named All Ivy League<br />

in Singles and Doubles, and was raked as high as #7 (with Adil Shamasdin).<br />

<strong>Cerretani</strong> turned pro in 2005, and won his first ATP World Tour Title in 2008, playing<br />

with Hanescu, in Kitzbuhel, Austria. He went on to capture two more ATP World Tour<br />

Titles, both in Johannesburg, South Africa. In 2009, with Norman, and in 2011, with his<br />

former college partner Shamasdin. Later that year, <strong>Cerretani</strong> made it to <strong>the</strong> Quarterfinal<br />

round at Wimbledon.<br />

His favorite moment on <strong>the</strong> Tour was defeating Roger Federer in front <strong>of</strong> a packed house<br />

in Basel, Switzerland.<br />

<strong>Cerretani</strong>, who joined <strong>PTR</strong> while playing <strong>the</strong> US Open in 2011, is coached by Ales Reter,<br />

and his sister, Chrissy <strong>Cerretani</strong>, who is also a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>PTR</strong>.<br />

<strong>PTR</strong> is <strong>the</strong> largest global organization <strong>of</strong> tennis teaching pr<strong>of</strong>essionals with more than<br />

14,000 members in 117 countries. It has <strong>the</strong> greatest percentage <strong>of</strong> multicultural and<br />

women members <strong>of</strong> any such organization. <strong>PTR</strong> is dedicated to educating, certifying and<br />

servicing tennis teachers and coaches around <strong>the</strong> world in order to grow <strong>the</strong> game.<br />
