SI-9144 DUAL-CHANNEL PHASE-
COHERENT VHF/UHF TUNER
The SI-9144 is a subminiature, microprocessor-controlled,
dual-channel, wideband tuner capable of tuning over the
VHF/UHF spectrum from 20 to 3000 MHz. The SI-9144’s
small size and low power consumption make the unit
ideal for portable wideband tuning applications where
power reduction and weight are crucial considerations.
The unit is controlled remotely over a single- or multi-drop
RS-232C or a low-speed universal serial bus (USB 1.1)
interface. All microprocessor-controlled functions are
accessible over each of the control interfaces. The
SI -9144 can be confi gured to operate with either the
internal 10 MHz reference oscillator or an external
10 MHz reference input signal. This reference standard
may be provided or accepted via the front panel.
The unit features low phase noise, fast tuning and high
dynamic range. Each wideband tuner channel provides
100-kHz tuning resolution.
In addition to manual gain control, the unit provides an
automatic gain control (AGC) algorithm that can be used
to maintain the 70 MHz IF output of each channel at a
selectable level.
In addition to fi xed frequency tuning, the SI-9144 provides
a sweep scan (coverage from a start to a stop frequency in
defi ned steps) and a step scan (preprogrammed discrete
frequencies). The SI-9144 is sequenced through scan
scenarios via an advance command or a hardware strobe.
The SI-9144 may be remotely confi gured to distribute
its local oscillator (LO) signals to operate either in the
phase-coherent (Master/Slave) local oscillator (LO) mode
or in an independent LO mode. Additionally, two SI-9144
tuners can be confi gured to provide four phase-coherent
channels. Channel 1 of the fi rst SI-9144 is confi gured as
the LO master and sources its fi rst and second LO signals
to Channel 2 and to the second SI-9144.
The SI-9144 is designed to use a single standard
commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) camcorder battery. The
battery attaches directly to the rear panel of the unit.
The wide input voltage range of 8 to 16 Vdc allows for
operation from a variety of COTS camcorder-type batteries
or power supplies. The system consumes less than 8.0
watts during normal operation. A power standby mode
extends battery life during periods of inactivity.
