Remote, Self-Contained, Fossil and Renewable Energy Power System
TACTICAL INTELLIGENT POWER SYSTEMS FOR REMOTE SITE APPLICATION:
TIPS RPS
DRS Technologies offers a flexible, scalable and affordable
system solution for providing reliable, continuous electric
power in isolated or remote site applications needing self
contained continuous operation with ultra low requirements
for service. Our Tactical Intelligent Power Systems,
Renewable Power System (TIPS RPS) utilizes technology
similar to our larger scale TIPS products but at power levels
which can be supported by portable solar and wind power
generation systems. Coupled with a highly capable battery
system and backup generator - used only for emergency and
maintenance situations - TIPS RPS provides a nominal 600
Watts of continuous electric power (adjustable to other power
levels with modification to the size of the solar array) at
standard 120 VAC output for 24 hours/365 days per year
with fuel servicing required at only 3-4 month intervals or
longer.
• “Virtual fence” border security systems
• Remote weather or radar stations
• Communication relay links
• Disaster recovery
• Nation building
• Islands of power
• General purpose utility power
• National park facility or other “green” facility support
TIPS RPS can be adopted to meet any application where low
cost and low maintenance, reliable power is required – and
depended on. Installation is accomplished by overland
transport on a removable wheel-set or by helicopter lift.
Setup is accomplished by two technicians in approximately 2
hours using components stored for transport within the
Conex enclosure.
Designed to handle environmental extremes while requiring
minimal periodic maintenance; the TIPS RPS system can
meet remote and unattended power needs at a very low life
cycle cost. Primary renewable power source applications
served by the TIPS RPS include:
The DRS TIPS RPS uses well-proven, ruggedized commercial
components. This adheres to the Department of Homeland
Security (DHS) guidelines for preferred hardware solutions.

HIGHLIGHTS
• Standalone - Solar/Wind based with battery and back-up
generator operation
• Self-Contained - All components mounted & shipped
within a standard ISO shelter
• Transportable - Fully mobile with temporary installation
of wheel and pintle towing kit
• Remote Performance Monitor - Monitoring station has
full insight into system performance and alerts if
unscheduled maintenance is required
• Modular construction - Easy component replacement
• Designed for extremely low maintenance and minimal
training - basic qualified maintenance personnel can
perform required periodic repairs
• Rapid 2-person set-up - Operational in less than 30
minutes for support of installation - 2 hours for erection
of solar panels
Whether it’s supporting first responders, monitoring remote
security sites, providing portable, temporary or permanent
power needs, the DRS TIPS RPS provides the total power
solution. DRS Test and Energy Management’s (DRS TEM)
long history of hybrid electric power development and its
technology pioneering role in providing U.S. Department of
Defense battlefield and mobile power applications makes
this affordable technology available today.
