Clearing the NVRAM (Non-volatile
random access memory) on
Topcon GR-3 3 Receivers
January 2008

Clearing the NVRAM
• A Topcon receiver's Non-Volatile Random Access
Memory (NVRAM) holds data required for satellite
tracking, such as ephemeris data, almanac data, and
receiver position. The NVRAM also keeps the current
receiver's settings, such as active antenna input,
elevation masks and recording interval.
• Clearing a receiver's NVRAM can eliminate
communication or tracking problems. Clearing the
NVRAM can be interpreted as a soft boot to your
computer.
•Clearing the NVRAM of your Topcon receiver will not delete any static file within the
receiver. However, it will reset the receiver's internal parameters to factor defaults.
•After clearing the NVRAM in a Topcon receiver, the receiver's Status (STAT) LED will
flash orange for a few seconds indicating that the receiver is scanning and checking
the file system.
•After clearing the NVRAM, the receiver will require some time to collect new
ephemerides and almanacs (around 15 minutes).

• The first step to clearing the NVRAM in a Topcon receiver is to
power it off. If the receiver is currently powered on, simply press
and hold green power button.
• Once off, it is normal for the receiver’s BATT (battery) lights to
blink once every five seconds
• However, the STAT (status) light should not be blinking.

• With the receiver powered off, press and hold the gray FUNCTION
button.
• Then also press and hold the green power button. You will be pressing
and holding the gray FUNCTION and green power button together.
• Both the STAT and REC lights will turn solid green.
• When both the STAT and REC lights blink orange in color, let go of all
buttons.
• It is common for the STAT light to blink orange for a few seconds.
