Branson Worldwide – Best for Plastics
BRANSON offers a
Improved vibration head concept PPL+ (Power Package Linear Plus)
PC control with process data management
wide range of successful
welding techniques,
based on the know-how
gathered in over
50 years on the global
market. Simultaneously,
international presence is
an important basis for
our special consulting
teams when analysing
problems in key industries.
It goes without
saying that our customers
can depend on our
discretion in finding
solutions.
of a “claw-type”
joining of different materials
– in this case ABS and fiber —
by means of vibration joining
technology.
The electromagnetic drive and the spring packs ensure that little
maintenance is required to remain operational.
The software of the digital frequency converter has
been further developed and eliminates a physical
disadvantage that occurs with three-phase coil
technology, involving the coil forces partially
counteracting each other.
Another advantage of this new drive is the increased
range of upper tool weights that can be used.
Areas of application
Vibration welding machines with a vibration head
frequency of 100 Hz are specially designed for the
demands of material bonding of large plastic
parts. They make it possible to weld a continuous
weld seam with a correspondingly dimensioned
welding surface.
The user profits from the high mechanical seam
strengths, the wide scope of materials and applications,
short process times in the range of 2 to
10 seconds, and low energy consumption.
This method can be used to weld:
– Almost all thermoplastics of the same type
– Different amorphous plastics
– Plastics reinforced with long fibres
– Material combinations of thermoplastics with
substrates – for example wood or textiles
The list of solved applications mainly includes
various inner and outer parts for vehicles, for
example instrument panels, bumpers or door
panelling.
Optionally the drive and control components can
be integrated into customer-specific special
systems – in the case of very large welding surfa-
CAD drawing of vibration head concept PPL+
The weight can vary ± 30% from the nominal
value without affecting the drive power.
Optimized amplitude regulators additionally allow
controlled ramping and release times. Both have a
positive effect on the mechanical and visual seam
properties.
ces, also with several simultaneously driven vibration
heads. The machine concept also simplifies
integration in fully automated production lines.
Samples of automotive applications
Almost every vibration welding machine is equipped
with our innovative PC control “VC 100“ as
a standard. It applies a powerful industrial computer
and controls the complete welding process.
While the machine and tooling functions are
initiated and surveyed by an integrated Soft-PLC,
the system is operated through a multilingual,
graphical user interface on a touch screen –
completed by a context-oriented menu structure
and extensive help modules.
The “VC 100“ enables varying operation modes
and parameters as well as an easy to-use, free
programming of the weld cycle and additional
functions.
This includes control over an optional IR preheating
unit (medium wave foil emitter, adapted to
the weld contour), for creating clean, particlereduced
weld seams.
With the database, you can save and export any
number of setting combinations and reload them,
depending, for example, on the tool coding. Thanks to the
serial recording of all important process parameters, this PC controller
provides efficient management of weld data with numerous visualisation features,
analysis tools as well as import/export routines. The TeleService function additionally
enables remote diagnosis, online support and online training. This ensures machine availability and
targeted optimisation of the product quality.
High fusion performance
The new M-series with improved drive system leads to remarkable
advantages with the nominal frequency range of 100Hz.
Concerning the plastification it was possible to achieve a power
increase of up to 100%. We guarantee that the high welding
performances indicated for PP in the table will be achieved. For
other materials, the user may equally assume over-average
values.
The exact values will also be covered by our guarantee, after tests
in our application laboratory. Due to the larger work area, the
Standard system
model M-906 Li, e.g. for
welding of dashboards
peak-to-peak amplitude range of 1.8 to 4.0 mm can now also be
used for applications with substantially larger joint surfaces or
for materials that are difficult to weld, independent of the frequency.
Finally, the high performance drive system allows smaller
machine frames and therefore a more compact system. These
advantages result in a smaller expenditure on capital assets for
the system and consequently lower unit costs during manufacturing.
