Staff Farewells and Appointments September 2012<br />

It is with great sadness that we are saying farewell to Mr Peter Lavarack after ten years of Science<br />

teaching at Brockhurst and Marlst on House Schools. Mr L avarack who joined us from Bearwood<br />

College where he had been a House master and Head of Department, will b e retiring at th e end of<br />

this term. Mr Lavarack applied for what he sugge sted was the post of “Man Friday”, however with<br />

his huge knowledge and wealth of experience he was soon contri buting whole heartedly to the<br />

science department, working in close partnership with Mr Park and ensuring that a solid foundation<br />

of knowledge had been covered by each pupil b efore progressing to the senior classes. We would<br />

all like to thank him for his huge commitment to the schools and wish him and Heidi, who has been<br />

doing the splendid flower arrangem ents in the front entrance hall so im aginatively for many years,<br />

every happiness for the future.<br />

Mrs Sharon Boccacini BSc(Hons) P GCE, graduate of De Montfort and Reading Universities, who<br />

is a specialist science and maths teacher, will be taking over Mr Lavarack’s classes in September.<br />

We are also wishing a fond farewell to Mr Chris Murgatroyd who re-joined the staff in 2003 having<br />

already been a resident m ember of staff for a nu mber of years during the 1990s. Chris has been an<br />

excellent rugby coach and hard working teacher . We thank him for his e normous contribution to<br />

school life and wish him every success as he leaves to assist his wife Jo in their m arketing business<br />

enterprise.<br />

We are delighted to be welcom ing Mrs Sophie Beckers B A(Hons) Oxford Institute of Linguists,<br />

who will b e taking over from Mr Mur gatroyd as a spe cialist teacher of English with RS. She h as<br />

been teaching GCSE English at Theale Green School and is a qualified t eacher (QTS) specialising<br />

in English language and literature, along with Fr ench, Germ an and Italia n. Mrs Beckers is no<br />

stranger to the school since her own children were pupils at Ridge House.<br />

We have also appointed as the second class t eacher of 6 G, Mrs Caroline Rich ardson as for m<br />

teacher. Mrs Richardson has been working with th e school since 2010 mainly as a mem ber of the<br />

LDC team . She is a q ualified g raduate teach er, BA(Hons) Cardif f University , PGCE (Prim ary<br />

Education) Worcester College and is looking forward to joining us fulltime in this role.<br />

At the pre-p rep (Ridge House), we are wish ing Sarah Dalby every success and happiness as she<br />

leaves to join the Swindon Academy in a new phase of her career . She has been a very supportive<br />

member of the pre-prep for the last three years. We are delighted to announce the appointm ent of<br />

Mrs Jules Evernden BA(Hons)PGCE Exeter Univer sity as Form 8 teacher from September ,<br />

working alongside Miss Sophie Ainge. Mrs Evernden is a qualified teacher fo r the Early Years and


has taught at a number of village schools lo cally as well as in Devon. We very much welcome Mrs<br />

Evernden to the pre-prep team.<br />
