<strong>Safety</strong> <strong>Committee</strong> <strong>Meeting</strong> <strong>Minutes</strong><br />

April 15, 2010<br />

10:00 am<br />

The meeting was called to order at 10:00 am by Chairperson Fran Brunet with 11 members present.<br />

<strong>Minutes</strong> from March meeting were reviewed and accepted.<br />

1. Cliff reviewed:<br />

• MVA/OSHA recordables for April and thru 1 st QTR of the year.<br />

• Preventable MVA’s/OSHA recordables ’09 vs. ‘10.<br />

• Multiple injury reviews/employee discussions conducted & corrective action.<br />

• Improvement; no MVP’s in all divisions including Limo for 30 days.<br />

• Update on safety initiatives at bases.<br />

• Bay changes dramatically effective on staff backing into bay 3.<br />

2. 6S Program Update:<br />

• A&E Dept floor improvement and rack development in progress.<br />

• Finance Dept completed and in 2 nd phase; dramatic improvement.<br />

• Next will be buildings 9 and 4, base 6 and an ambulance by summer-end.<br />

• Cliff commended all involved on a super job.<br />

3. EMS Dept:<br />

• Addressed concerns re: base security during power failure.<br />

• Suggestions made and more to come.<br />

• Wheel locks on stretchers a safety concern.<br />

• O2 storage bay 3, base 1 post sign.<br />

• Glucometer lancets new ones being looked at.<br />

• Discussed concerns re: location of sharp containers (Fran & Mark to meet on this).<br />

• Slide sheets “to use or not to use”.<br />

4. NE/Admin/Limo Dept:<br />

• Issues; i.e. potholes, etc.<br />

• Don raised concerns about radios & portable chargers.<br />

• Don also raised concerns re: training with papa 30 and if newbie’s are being properly trained. Fran<br />

stated papa30 not always here during orientation.<br />

5. More Updates:<br />

• <strong>Minutes</strong> may now be viewed on the website.<br />

6. Health & Wellness Initiatives:<br />

• Eileen gave an update on available programs; exercise, stretching, etc.<br />

• Update on Biggest Loser Program concluded and a huge success.<br />

• EAP New Stress Seminar Online highly recommended.<br />

• Continuing programs.<br />

• Review Meriden Health Dept upcoming events handout.<br />

7. <strong>Safety</strong> Incentive Program:<br />

• First Quarter Drawing to be done & in newsletter.<br />

• <strong>Safety</strong> Pins for employees working 3 yrs no OSHA or PMVA.<br />

8. Selection made of Chair and Secretary for coming quarter:<br />

• Chairperson – Cheryl Lint.<br />

• Secretary – Bruce Batchelder<br />

9. <strong>Safety</strong> <strong>Committee</strong> Training for Effective <strong>Safety</strong> <strong>Committee</strong>s:<br />

• All committee members and alternates are requested to attend. Session scheduled for April 29 th from<br />

10:00-2:00 .<br />

10. Old Business:<br />

• Dialysis visits patient transfer issues working with administrator to finalize.<br />

11. Next <strong>Meeting</strong>:<br />

• Scheduled for May 20, 2010 at 10:00 am.<br />
