Safety Committee Meeting Minutes
April 15, 2010

The meeting was called to order at 10:00 am by Chairperson Fran Brunet with 11 members present.
Minutes from March meeting were reviewed and accepted.
1. Cliff reviewed:
• MVA/OSHA recordables for April and thru 1 st QTR of the year.
• Preventable MVA’s/OSHA recordables ’09 vs. ‘10.
• Multiple injury reviews/employee discussions conducted & corrective action.
• Improvement; no MVP’s in all divisions including Limo for 30 days.
• Update on safety initiatives at bases.
• Bay changes dramatically effective on staff backing into bay 3.
2. 6S Program Update:
• A&E Dept floor improvement and rack development in progress.
• Finance Dept completed and in 2 nd phase; dramatic improvement.
• Next will be buildings 9 and 4, base 6 and an ambulance by summer-end.
• Cliff commended all involved on a super job.
3. EMS Dept:
• Addressed concerns re: base security during power failure.
• Suggestions made and more to come.
• Wheel locks on stretchers a safety concern.
• O2 storage bay 3, base 1 post sign.
• Glucometer lancets new ones being looked at.
• Discussed concerns re: location of sharp containers (Fran & Mark to meet on this).
• Slide sheets “to use or not to use”.
4. NE/Admin/Limo Dept:
• Issues; i.e. potholes, etc.
• Don raised concerns about radios & portable chargers.
• Don also raised concerns re: training with papa 30 and if newbie’s are being properly trained. Fran
stated papa30 not always here during orientation.
5. More Updates:
• Minutes may now be viewed on the website.
6. Health & Wellness Initiatives:
• Eileen gave an update on available programs; exercise, stretching, etc.
• Update on Biggest Loser Program concluded and a huge success.
• EAP New Stress Seminar Online highly recommended.
• Continuing programs.

• Review Meriden Health Dept upcoming events handout.
7. Safety Incentive Program:
• First Quarter Drawing to be done & in newsletter.
• Safety Pins for employees working 3 yrs no OSHA or PMVA.
8. Selection made of Chair and Secretary for coming quarter:
• Chairperson – Cheryl Lint.
• Secretary – Bruce Batchelder
9. Safety Committee Training for Effective Safety Committees:
• All committee members and alternates are requested to attend. Session scheduled for April 29 th from
10:00-2:00 .
10. Old Business:
• Dialysis visits patient transfer issues working with administrator to finalize.
11. Next Meeting:
• Scheduled for May 20, 2010 at 10:00 am.
