<strong>Safety</strong> <strong>Committee</strong> <strong>Meeting</strong><br />

April 19, 2012<br />

The meeting was called to order at 10:00 am by Debbie Elliott with 12 members present and 1 guest. Minutes from<br />

March were reviewed and accepted.<br />

Attendance: Debbie Elliott, Eileen Bongiovanni, Sara Waller, Cliff Carlson, Lilia Boyette, Ray Dennison, Craig Welch,<br />

Steven Ashby, Josephine Nigro, Myles Moran, Bruce Batchelder, Fran Brunet. Guest: Wesley Hurd<br />

MVA/OSHA/Workers Comp:<br />

• 6 preventable/8 non-preventable<br />

• 9 OSHA recordables<br />

Goals & Objectives:<br />

• Still needs improvement. Any items to be add to the list or suggestions please e-mail Eileen B.<br />

Take Charge<br />

• Health Insurance Renewal—please attend one of the meetings.<br />

• Completed Biggest Loser—more to come.<br />

• Health Risk Assessment (HRA)—50% only done.<br />

• Food Service Program—on hold at the moment—still in progress.<br />

Special Transportation:<br />

• Deb E. was at all the bases and did a quick walk through and updated the <strong>Safety</strong> Boards.<br />

• All bases missing the David Podell <strong>Safety</strong> Award Poster & nomination forms.<br />

• Bldg #4—Deb E, Sue C & Marc G are working on getting all school endorsed vehicles up to Bob C in Service<br />

to install the RR CROSSING signs on the back of the doors. The list was also forwarded to A&E dept.<br />

• A&E—if acceptable to reverse the safety board in the outside hallway to the lounge area.<br />

• Base 3—get shelving near the computer to store binders in the correct place. Monster drinks in vending<br />

machines.<br />

• Base 4—excellent shape, everything put in place.<br />

• Base 5—EMS postings in the safety case. Monster drinks in the vending machine.<br />

• Base 6—EMS postings in the safety case. <strong>Safety</strong> board location is still in the hallway. In the wash bay, the<br />

outlet cover is there but does not close completely.<br />

EMS Division:<br />

• Stretchers- wheel locks-still in progress should be completed by the end of May.<br />

• Any stretchers being changed out from ambulances, needs to be reported to OPS Coordinator.<br />

• Radio implants—posting coming out.<br />

• Complex Guide—John Gopoian working on that. When completed will post.<br />

• C O meter in ambulance—looking into getting one.<br />

• Speaker Volume (base #1/ Bldg #1)—get volume control button.<br />

• <strong>Safety</strong> Incentive Program—adding different ideas to the list that can also apply to road staff (uniformed<br />

employees).<br />

• Back parking lot—stairs on Vine St. from parking lot, needs lighting to avoid a tripping hazard.<br />

• Proper technique on restraining patients—adding it to the Refresher Classes.<br />

• Disaster Response—look into getting some kind of training or free online courses.<br />

<strong>Safety</strong> recognition<br />

• Tickets has increased 93% since the March meeting.<br />

We are up to 484 tickets so far this year.<br />

• David Podell Award—Cheryl/ Deb will get new page w/application and also post in newsletter.<br />

• Drawing for last quarter needs to be done.<br />

Base 7:<br />

• Phones not working to good.<br />

• Radios- getting through to dispatch.<br />

Spill control team:<br />

• First meeting in May


A & E and Service Department:<br />

• Maps being destroyed or missing from ambulances (costly).<br />

• Liquids getting spilled on radios in the ambulance.<br />

• Looking into flares for daytime use.<br />

• Reflectors, working on them as they come in.<br />

Bariatric <strong>Ambulance</strong> – delayed, hopefully end of April will be on the road.<br />

Limo Division:<br />

• <strong>Safety</strong> stools—steel step stools ordered and should be in a couple of days. (more sturdy)<br />

Action Items:<br />

• Cliff Carlson -- put postings up for seeding<br />

• Fran Brunet – doing reset for ALS equipment bags<br />

• Bruce Batchelder/Bob Criniti –Demers anti-theft<br />

• Bruce Batchelder/Cliff Carlson – C O detectors, look at it<br />

• Cliff Carlson/ John Gopoian – Crew room speaker<br />

• Cliff Carlson/ John Gopoian – lights on stairs on Vine St.<br />

• Fran Brunet – restraining of patients<br />

• Fran Brunet – working disaster, look into it<br />
