Safety Committee Meeting
April 19, 2012
The meeting was called to order at 10:00 am by Debbie Elliott with 12 members present and 1 guest. Minutes from
March were reviewed and accepted.
Attendance: Debbie Elliott, Eileen Bongiovanni, Sara Waller, Cliff Carlson, Lilia Boyette, Ray Dennison, Craig Welch,
Steven Ashby, Josephine Nigro, Myles Moran, Bruce Batchelder, Fran Brunet. Guest: Wesley Hurd
MVA/OSHA/Workers Comp:
• 6 preventable/8 non-preventable
• 9 OSHA recordables
Goals & Objectives:
• Still needs improvement. Any items to be add to the list or suggestions please e-mail Eileen B.
Take Charge
• Health Insurance Renewal—please attend one of the meetings.
• Completed Biggest Loser—more to come.
• Health Risk Assessment (HRA)—50% only done.
• Food Service Program—on hold at the moment—still in progress.
Special Transportation:
• Deb E. was at all the bases and did a quick walk through and updated the Safety Boards.
• All bases missing the David Podell Safety Award Poster & nomination forms.
• Bldg #4—Deb E, Sue C & Marc G are working on getting all school endorsed vehicles up to Bob C in Service
to install the RR CROSSING signs on the back of the doors. The list was also forwarded to A&E dept.
• A&E—if acceptable to reverse the safety board in the outside hallway to the lounge area.
• Base 3—get shelving near the computer to store binders in the correct place. Monster drinks in vending
machines.
• Base 4—excellent shape, everything put in place.
• Base 5—EMS postings in the safety case. Monster drinks in the vending machine.
• Base 6—EMS postings in the safety case. Safety board location is still in the hallway. In the wash bay, the
outlet cover is there but does not close completely.
EMS Division:
• Stretchers- wheel locks-still in progress should be completed by the end of May.
• Any stretchers being changed out from ambulances, needs to be reported to OPS Coordinator.
• Radio implants—posting coming out.
• Complex Guide—John Gopoian working on that. When completed will post.
• C O meter in ambulance—looking into getting one.
• Speaker Volume (base #1/ Bldg #1)—get volume control button.
• Safety Incentive Program—adding different ideas to the list that can also apply to road staff (uniformed
employees).
• Back parking lot—stairs on Vine St. from parking lot, needs lighting to avoid a tripping hazard.
• Proper technique on restraining patients—adding it to the Refresher Classes.
• Disaster Response—look into getting some kind of training or free online courses.
Safety recognition
• Tickets has increased 93% since the March meeting.
We are up to 484 tickets so far this year.
• David Podell Award—Cheryl/ Deb will get new page w/application and also post in newsletter.
• Drawing for last quarter needs to be done.
Base 7:
• Phones not working to good.
• Radios- getting through to dispatch.
Spill control team:
• First meeting in May

A & E and Service Department:
• Maps being destroyed or missing from ambulances (costly).
• Liquids getting spilled on radios in the ambulance.
• Looking into flares for daytime use.
• Reflectors, working on them as they come in.
Bariatric Ambulance – delayed, hopefully end of April will be on the road.
Limo Division:
• Safety stools—steel step stools ordered and should be in a couple of days. (more sturdy)
Action Items:
