Lorna Brown - Mentoring Artists for Women's Art

Graduates of the Foundation Mentorship Program 2005-06
kathryn mackenzie is an emerging artist
with a penchant for turning things inside out. She has
recently received two grants for Outside-In House, a
straw bale sculpture and video project which will
involve as many people as possible in the creation,
burning, and video documentation of the work.
Katherine worked at Art City for many years and
currently works for the Spence Neighbourhood
Association. Here, she works with artist Leah Decter,
helps to administer Winnipeg's first WITHART Public
Art Grant, and acts as a liason with the community.
She feels that public art is integral to the cultural
longevity of a community, and has been inspired by
works in Mexico, San Fransisco, and Winnipeg, and on
train cars moving across the prairies.
jennie o is a self-taught visual artist born in 1975
in Mississauga, Ontario. Jennie has lived in Winnipeg
since she was four years old. Jennie's affinity for art
and community has led her to where she is today. She
is currently the Studio-Coordinator of Art City, an
inner-city drop-in centre in the West Broadway
neighbourhood. Perhaps best known for her dolls,
Jennie also enjoys drawing, crafting, painting, and
making sculpures from found objects. She recently
exhibited at the Winnipeg Art Gallery in the
Supernovas show and is currently exhibiting in a selfportrait
show that will be touring the United States for
a year.
