Professor William Klausner first travelled
on a research scholarship to
Thailand in the 1950’s and has been
a long term commentator of Thai life,
culture and society. He has worked
as an advisor to foreign embassies
and large corporations. He also has
lectured in political science and international
relations at prestigious universities
in Bangkok and abroad.
Ajahn Bill has witnessed tremendous
pressures on traditional Thai ways of
life by globalisation and industrialisation.
He speaks of an agricultural
society where the culture was deeply
rooted in the way of life, avoidance
of all disharmony or conflict, respect
for seniors and monks was obligatory,
and women followed the wishes
and traditions of the village commu-
