3.2.10 Aspen Leaf Beetle, Chrysomela crotchi Browns- There was a<br />
significant increase in the adu populations of this leaf beetle early<br />
in the season, but subsequent larval populations were not as high as<br />
expected (Fig. 7). Light infestations with patches of moderate were<br />
recorded throughout the Whiteshell <strong>Forest</strong> Reserve <strong>and</strong> north to Sasaginnigak<br />
<strong>and</strong> Family lakes. Collections were taken as far north as Molson <strong>and</strong><br />
Big Stone lakes in . northern Manitoba, <strong>and</strong> throughout the Agassiz,<br />
S<strong>and</strong>il<strong>and</strong>s, <strong>and</strong> Northwest Angle <strong>Forest</strong> reserves.<br />
Moderate defoliation with patches of severe occurred from<br />
Victoria Beach south to the Gull Lake area, along the Bear River Road,<br />
at Otter Falls, Falcon Lake, <strong>and</strong> along No. 15 Highway near Vivian.<br />
Severe skeletonizing was confined mainly to aspen reproduction up to<br />
3" d.b.h.<br />
In the southeastern part of Manitoba, moderate to severe<br />
defoliation was noted from the Zhoda-Vita area north <strong>and</strong>. west to<br />
Steinbach. <strong>and</strong> over an area of about 6 square miles north of Woodridge.
