BICWM challenge - Brethren in Christ Church

4 WED . JAPAN The tragedy in Japan is
creating openness to spiritual help among the
Japanese people. Pray for BIC churches there
as they reach out to those in need. Pray that
they will demonstrate Christ’s love as they
minister to physical and spiritual needs.
5 THU . NAVAJO The Navajo church planting
team – Ben and Eunice Stoner, Jason and
Rebekah Oberholser, and Brian and Rochelle
Myers – realize that they are in a fierce spiritual
battle for the souls of the Navajo people. Ask
God to protect them from Satan’s physical and
emotional attacks. Pray Ephesians 6 over them,
especially that they will be able to stand firm in
the strength of the Lord.
6 FRI . ZAMBIA A retreat is being held today
through Sunday for lay leaders and their
spouses. Pray that the attendees will be
encouraged for their unique service in their
local churches.
7 SAT . ZAMBIA Tomorrow is Sikalongo
Bible Institute Sunday. Pray that the churches
of Zambia will have a greater awareness of this
school and will offer good support. Pray also for
Walter Hiebert who is teaching Old Testament at
the Institute this term. Pray that the Lord will use
his teaching to inspire students with the mighty
saving acts of God in his dealings with Israel.
8 SUN . WORLDWIDE Pray for BICWM
cross-cultural workers and staff members as
they gather in Spain May 12–16 for the firstever
Global Team Retreat. The theme will be
“Connecting for Transformation.” Pray that
attendees will be blessed as they focus on
personal worship and intimacy with God, team
development, and vision casting. Pray for the
team in Spain as they host this retreat.
9 MON . ZAMBIA Pray for the Compassionate
Ministries Committee as they meet today.
Their work in meeting physical needs is a
significant part of the church’s ministry.
10 TUE . THAILAND Praise God for his
continued blessing on the work at the fish farm.
Pray for Randy as he desires to disciple T, the
worker at the farm who is a Christian. Pray that
J, the other employee, will develop a hunger to
know God.
11 WED . ZIMBABWE Staffing changes are
taking place at Ekuphileni Bible Institute. Pray
for a smooth transition as new personnel learn
about and adjust to new responsibilities. Ask God
to bless the students and cause them to grow
toward becoming strong leaders in the church.
12 THU . MEXICO Pray that Iglesia Betel and
the other church plants throughout Mexico will
grow in number and in leadership commitment.
13 FRI . NICARAGUA Pray for the National BIC
Women’s Committee as they raise funds to
provide for their ministry of visitation, encouragement,
and training of women throughout
Nicaragua. Pray that the women whose lives they
touch will be strengthened in their faith and will be
a blessing to their families and churches.
14 SAT . LONDON Jay Smith is speaking at
an Apologetics conference in London today.
Pray that Christians who attend will be educated,
motivated, and enabled to reach out to people
in their sphere of influence. Pray also for Jay’s
involvement with a multi-faith London group,
whose aim it is to educate politicians in the
House of Lords and the House of Commons,
addressing issues such as Sharia (Islamic)
courts, women’s rights under Islam, and Halal
meat. Also, ask God to guide and bless Jay’s
wife Judy in her roles as wife and mother and
in her work as a counselor.
15 SUN . SOUTH AFRICA The BIC church is
planting a new congregation in the city of Cape
Town. Pray that those involved in this effort will
reach out to their friends and neighbors, and
that many people will come to faith in Christ
and be brought into the church.
16 MON . SPAIN Pray for rest amid the
hectic rhythm of life in Madrid as those in the
church balance demanding work schedules,
long commutes, daily responsibilities, and
attentiveness to the Lord. Pray also that the
BIC congregations in Spain will find creative
ways to connect with Spanish families.
17 TUE . MALAWI Recently thieves stole
the transformer that supplies electricity for
the church center at Maone. About a week
later, thieves overpowered the guards on the
property, tied up one guard and the project
manager, and stole electronic items and
money. Pray for peace for those who were
traumatized by this event and for ways to
keep the property more secure.
18 WED . ISRAEL Praise the Lord that Hank
and Michele Dannecker received their visa
renewals. Ask God to guide them as they relaunch
the House of Bread (pizza shop) for
discipleship ministry. Pray for funds for 1 New
Heart surgery sponsorships, and that the
Danneckers will be able to build relationships
with families they serve through this ministry.
19 THU . INDIA Thirty-one new believers in
two areas are ready for baptism. Pray for the
Lord’s protection and guidance in their lives.
Pray that they will grow spiritually and stand
firm in the Lord.
20 FRI . NEW MEXICO Tony, Wally, Kevin
and Elton will graduate from the Overcomers
program at Navajo BIC Mission today. Pray
that they will continue walking the path God has
been showing them for the past three months.
21 SAT . LONDON A large group of Italian
Christians are in London for a weekend
outreach focused on ministry to Muslims.
Pray for Jay Smith as he teaches and
encourages them to reach out in friendship
and speak the truth in conversations with
Muslims in London and also at home in Italy.

22 SUN . BOTSWANA Pontsho, a recent
graduate of Ekuphileni Bible Institute, has
been assigned to plant a church in Serowe.
This is a completely new venture in this part of
Botswana. Pray that he will be able to make
fruitful contacts in the area and that a
congregation will be established.
23 MON . VENEZUELA On March 13, a new
facility for the Pueblo de Dios (People of God)
BIC Church in Los Teques was inaugurated
after several years of meeting in a home.
Praise God that 59 adults and twelve children
attended the celebration service. Pray for this
congregation and for Pastor Pablo Ortega.
24 TUE . LONDON Pray for Angelina S and
another Christian as they meet weekly with Q,
a Pakistani Muslim woman. Q is very open to
friendship, and they have been able to clearly
articulate the differences between Islamic and
Christian views of Jesus. Pray for Q’s heart to
be softened towards knowing Jesus as her
Savior. “I am the way, the truth and the life.”
25 WED . ZIMBABWE Ask God to bless the
Women’s Ministries Study Program at
Theological College of Zimbabwe, which
provides two years of basic Bible and
theological training for pastors’ wives and
other women in ministry. Next year a
coordinator will need to be found to replace
Mrs. Amita Sudra, who began the program.
26 THU . HONDURAS Pray that the Holy
Spirit will guide the newly elected Board of
Directors of the BIC church in Honduras: Juan
Perez (president), Gerardo Alfredo Amaya
(vice president), José Zavala (treasurer), and
Filadelfo Gonzalez Lopez (secretary).
27 FRI . NEW MEXICO Today is the last day
of school for students at Nizhóní Christian
Academy at Navajo BIC Mission. God has been
at work in the students’ lives. Pray that they will
remain strong throughout the summer months.
28 SAT . MOZAMBIQUE The church in
Mozambique is struggling financially. Pray that
God will inspire a spirit of giving throughout the
church, and that leaders will present clear
teaching on stewardship and giving.
29 SUN . THAILAND Pray that when people in
the community see the believers’ love for God
and for each other, the Lord will add to the
house churches those who are being saved
(Acts 2:47). Pray that as believers are discipled,
some of them will become leaders who can
continue and expand the ministry.
30 MON . ZIMBABWE The rainy season ended
prematurely resulting in a very poor harvest in
many areas. It has been estimated that millions
of people will need food aid to prevent starvation.
Pray that the government will allow churches and
NGOs to distribute available food freely and fairly.
31 TUE . NAVAJO Pray that Navajo believers
will catch a vision of sharing the gospel with
their unbelieving relatives and neighbors. Pray
that they will be willing to accept leadership
roles in the home groups of the Freedom of
Nations church.

And the good news is . . .
Praise God for the amazing growth of the church in
Mozambique! In 2002, when Malawi missionaries
Youngson Palibendipo and Laston Bisani arrived,
there were three churches. Today there are 88 churches
in seven of the ten provinces with more than 5000
believers participating. Pray that an extensive
program of leadership training will be established
and that evangelistic outreach will not be hindered
by lack of financial support.

1 SUN . ZIMBABWE District Council
meetings will be held in six of the seven
districts this month. These meetings are
important for conducting district business and
for the fellowship of believers. Pray that there
will be a spirit of unity in the districts and that
the churches will be strengthened.
2 MON . NICARAGUA Ask God to bless
Nicaragua with good and cleansing rains.
Many people in this land make their livelihood
by subsistence farming. May God’s unfailing
love also rain down on his children.
3 TUE . LONDON The church planting team
of Paul and Claire K, Hope N, and Angelina S
are building friendships with Muslims in the
area of Waltham Forest with a goal of sharing
Christ’s love. Pray for the team as they equip
believers in local churches to do the same.
Pray that ongoing relationships will develop.
