LITURGY OF THE WORD
First Reading: read by Amanda Wiegard
A reading from the book of Ecclesiastes, Ch 3
There is a season for everything, a time for every occupation under
heaven:
A time for giving birth, a time for dying;
A time for planting, a time for uprooting what has been planted.
A time for killing, a time for healing;
A time for knocking down, a time for building.
A time for tears, a time for laughter;
A time for mourning, a time for dancing.
A time for throwing stones away, a time for gathering them up.
A time for embracing, a time to refrain from embracing.
A time for searching, a time for losing;
A time for keeping, a time for throwing away.
A time for tearing, a time for sewing;
A time for keeping silent, a time for speaking.
A time for loving, a time for hating;
A time for war, a time for peace.
What do we gain for all the efforts we make? I know the heavy burdens
that God has laid on us. He has set the right time for everything. He has
given us the desire to know the future but never gives us the satisfaction
of knowing what he does. So I realised that all we can do is be happy
and do the best we can while we are still alive. And when we eat and
drink and find hsappiness in our work, this is a gift from God.
The word of the Lord.
ALL: Thanks be to God.
Responsorial Psalm: “Psalm 142 (143)” read by Karrine Parker
Response: O Lord, hear my prayer
Lord, listen to my prayer: turn your ear to my appeal. You are faithful,
you are just; give answer. Do not call your servant to judgement for no
one is just in your sight.
Response
I remember the days that are past: I ponder all your works. I muse on
what your hand has wrought and to you I stretch out my hands. Like a
parched land my soul thirsts for you.
Response
Lord, make haste and give me answer: for my spirit fails within me. In
the morning let me know your love for I put my trust in you.
Response
Teach me to do your will for you, O Lord, are my God. Let your good
spirit guide me in ways that are level and smooth.
Response
Second Reading: read by Alicia Crowe
A reading from the Second Letter of Paul to Timothy 4
Be always careful to choose the right course; be brave under trials,
perform your whole duty as a servant of God. As for me, my life is
already being poured away as an offering and the time has come for me
to be gone. I have fought the good fight to the end; I have run the race
to the finish; I have kept the faith; all that there is to come now is the
crown of righteousness reserved for me, which the lord, the righteous
Judge, will give me on that Day, and not only to me but to all who wait
with love for his Appearing.
The Word of the Lord.
ALL: Thanks be to God.
Gospel Acclamation:
ALL:
Alleluia! Alleluia!
This is the will of my Father, says the Lord, all who believe in the Son
will have eternal life and I will raise them to life on the last day.
Alleluia!
Gospel:
Priest: The Lord be with you.
ALL: And with your Spirit.
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John 14
ALL: Glory to you, O Lord.
There are many rooms in my Father’s house.
Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in
God still, and trust in me. There are many rooms in my Father’s house;
if there were not, I should have told you. I am going now to prepare a
place for you, and after I have gone and prepared you a place, I shall
return to take you with me; so that where I am you may be too. The
Gospel of the Lord.
ALL: Praise to You Lord Jesus Christ
