Keith said the members don’t
have to “dress up. Whatever you
want to wear is just fine.” And worshipers
still sit on pews that were
purchased by church members in
1899 for $150. And, while tradition
is important, Keith is proud to show
a copy of a print done by P. Buckley
Moss. “She’s done two,” he said with
a smile. The print is a Christmas
scene with Moss’s typical Amish or
Mennonite figures in front of the
church.
Services at Afton Chapel are held
each Sunday at 11 a.m. Trustees for
the church include Keith, and
Darlene and Rodney Via.

The Cabin at Turtle Creek is located near the Ballard-Maupin home
together. Garden paths lead to a
secluded hammock, tennis and basketball
courts, an outdoor pingpong
table, a pool and pool house
and an attractive guesthouse.
The gardens are open on Sunday,
April 19, from noon to 6 p.m. and
again on Monday from 10 a.m. to
5 p.m. Advance tickets are $30
and available at a number of
Charlottesville locations. Day of
the tour tickets are $35. Children

The Garden Club strongly recommends
carpooling. Those attending
should wear comfortable walking
shoes—no spike heels, strollers
or backpacks allowed in the homes.
No smoking or pets on tour and

equipment is prohibited.

Bishop Wayne Jackson of the
New Beginnings Church of
Culpeper will be the guest speaker
for the morning service at Mt. Salem
Gospel Church Sunday, April 5 at
11:30 a.m. Sunday School is at
10:30 a.m. followed by Praise and
Worship at 11:30 a.m., four Sundays
each month. All are welcome. Mt.
Salem Gospel Church is at the intersection
of Old Three Notch’d Road
