Such is <strong>the</strong> recital <strong>of</strong> Maximin. On <strong>the</strong><br />
few discrepancies, in form ra<strong>the</strong>r than sub;<br />

children, I shall make some observations<br />

mystic writers, that celestial apparitions cause<br />
diamay at first, but end in consolation; whilst<br />
those which are <strong>of</strong> an infernal origin, how whatever<br />
attractiveness <strong>the</strong>y may put forth at <strong>the</strong><br />
very beginning, but end in troubling <strong>the</strong> soul,<br />
And <strong>the</strong> recorded visions <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> sacred Sc~ip<br />
tures bear out this rule. So far as this tent<br />
is concerned, I leave <strong>the</strong> reader to apply it to<br />
<strong>the</strong> simple narrative <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se uneducated children.<br />
One feature runs through <strong>the</strong> whole <strong>of</strong><br />
this case, which, as a pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> sincerity <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong> children, has struck me much, and strikes<br />
me <strong>the</strong> more as I examine more minutely into<br />
it. In replying to those countless interrogations<br />
which have been put to <strong>the</strong>m, <strong>of</strong><br />
which whole volumes have been recorded,<br />
whilst <strong>the</strong>y thought but <strong>of</strong> describing <strong>the</strong><br />
apparition, and <strong>the</strong> circumstances attending<br />
<strong>the</strong>ir own share in it, <strong>the</strong>y have unconsciously<br />
