How Do People Get Around in
Rome?
Rome is a very busy city. Most Romans have got
their own cars or motorbikes. Actually, 50% drive
their cars or ride motorbikes in the city centre. It
is cheap to use the underground or take the bus,
and about 22% get around the city like this. The city
centre is small, so it is easy to walk. About 19% of
people walk in Rome. Taxis are very expensive, so
only 7% take them. Not many people have got bikes.
Only 2% of Romans ride their bikes in the city.
Houseboats in Amsterdam
There are 2500 houseboats in the city of Amsterdam. The boats are normal houses, but they are actually in
the water! Most boats have two or three bedrooms, a kitchen, a bathroom, and a small living room. Many
houseboats have dishwashers and microwaves in the kitchen. Also, the bedrooms are usually large with big
beds. In many living rooms, there are TVs, DVD players, radios and CD players. Some bathrooms have both
a shower and a bathtub. On some houseboats, there are gardens, too!

Igloos are ice houses. Some Inuit people
in North America live in them. Igloos are
usually small and there is only one room.
The family sleeps, cooks and eats in the
one room. They cook their food on a fire
and sleep on large rugs on the floor. It
is warm in an igloo because there are no
windows and the door is small. There are
also some big igloos. These igloos can
have up to 5 rooms. Sometimes they use
large igloos for meetings, dances, etc.
People in Greece and southern Italy have a
lot of healthy foods. Vegetables are very popular in
the Mediterranean diet. People eat a lot of tomatoes,
onions and lettuce. They use these vegetables to make
salads and they have salads with all their meals. They
use vegetables in soups and sauces, too. There is not
much meat in the Mediterranean diet, but there is a
lot of fish. Fish is very healthy. Pasta and bean soup
are also healthy and popular meals. People eat a lot
of fruit like apples, oranges and peaches. Orange juice
is a popular drink, too. Dairy products are a big part of
Hi John,
I’ve got some great news. I’ve got a new job - I’m a gardener! I go to
people’s houses and I make their gardens beautiful. This job is perfect for me
because I love nature. I am sending you some photographs of me at my job.
In the first photo, I’m working at Mrs Brown’s house. I’m making a
beautiful garden for her. In the second photo, I’m in Mr Peabody’s garden
and I am planting a tree. In the third photo, it is raining and I am sitting
in Mrs Everly’s kitchen. I’m waiting for the rain to stop so I can go home.
I love my job because I don’t talk on the phone or sit in front of a
computer all day. I also love it because I can help the environment. You
know how much I care about the environment!
