Houseboats in Amsterdam
There are 2500 houseboats in the city of Amsterdam. The boats are normal houses, but they are actually in
the water! Most boats have two or three bedrooms, a kitchen, a bathroom, and a small living room. Many
houseboats have dishwashers and microwaves in the kitchen. Also, the bedrooms are usually large with big
beds. In many living rooms, there are TVs, DVD players, radios and CD players. Some bathrooms have both
a shower and a bathtub. On some houseboats, there are gardens, too!
Igloos are ice houses. Some Inuit people
in North America live in them. Igloos are
usually small and there is only one room.
The family sleeps, cooks and eats in the
one room. They cook their food on a fire
and sleep on large rugs on the floor. It
is warm in an igloo because there are no
windows and the door is small. There are
also some big igloos. These igloos can
have up to 5 rooms. Sometimes they use
large igloos for meetings, dances, etc.
