Dr Sadna Balton acquired both her BA Speech and Hearing and B.ED Remedial Education through WITS
University. She has a diploma in Hospital Management (PDM), a Masters in Early Childhood Intervention
(UP) and D.Phil. Communication Pathology (UP). Further, she is a trained NDT therapist after having
completed a Basic Paediatric Course, Advanced Baby Course, and Advanced Speech Therapy Course.
Dr. Balton has presented at many national and international conferences on ECI and Paediatric Dysphagia.
She also received an “Excellence in Health Care” award from the Minister of Health for outstanding service
delivery. Dr Balton has 21 years of experience in the field of early childhood intervention.
Hema Thakor qualified with a degree in speech language pathology and audiology from the University of
the Witwatersrand in 2007. She completed her community service year working very closely with the
Westrand community in the Westrand clinics. She subsequently began working at Chris Hani Baragwanath
Academic Hospital (CHBAH) in the paediatric speech team. Together with Dr. Balton, she operates the
feeding clinic which focuses on assessment and management of patients with complex feeding difficulties.
She is currently the paeditric speech team leader and has a special interest in the area of paediatric
dysphagia.
