With ice rinks popping up all over the city, expert and novice skaters slip, slide and skate across the ice at various Toronto venues. One of the most romantic and beautiful of these rinks is at Nathan Phillips Square, where the reflecting pool is transformed into a glistening sheet of ice lit by 300,000 LEDs, turned on during the Cavalcade of Lights Festival. The ice rink is framed by the Square’s Freedom Arches, with a piece of the Berlin Wall lying at the base of the central arch to commemorate those who struggled to defend their freedom. Open from November 27 until March 13, the rink is best enjoyed at night.
