11) NEWLANDS SWIMMING GALA<br />

Well done to our swimmers who participated in the “A-League” gala last night. Given the disruption<br />

to our swimming practices this year, we performed well in a number of events. Thank you to our<br />

staff, swimmers and supporters for a very pleasant evening of swimming.<br />

12) CRICKET REPORTS<br />

Semi-Final : U19 Knock-out Competition vs Chesterhouse<br />

<strong>Fairmont</strong> were bowled out for 129 (Michael Laros 64 off 48 balls and Kyle de Wet 35 off 41 balls).<br />

Chesterhouse bowling: Matthew Valentine 3/11.<br />

Chesterhouse made 126/6 in their allotted 30 overs. Dean Bruitjies 36 (76 balls) Matthew<br />

Valentine 33 (40 balls). Liam Witten bowled 6 overs, taking 1 wicket for 3 runs. This exceptional<br />

performance gave <strong>Fairmont</strong> the edge in a game which had the spectators on the edge of their<br />

seats with Chesterhouse needing just 7 runs of the final over with 6 wickets in hand.<br />

Result:<br />

<strong>Fairmont</strong> beat Chesterhouse by 4 runs in the semi-final of the U19 KO competition.<br />

Cricket Results : Saturday, 21 February<br />

<strong>Fairmont</strong> made a clean sweep of the 5 matches played this week, with the U15B match postponed<br />

by the opposition. Altogether, <strong>Fairmont</strong> scored a total of 1,064 runs to their opponent’s 432 runs.<br />

We hope that this resurgence of cricket at <strong>Fairmont</strong> will continue!<br />

U19A<br />

With Khayelitsha arriving at 11h00, the game only started at 11h30, and was therefore reduced to<br />

35 overs.<br />

<strong>Fairmont</strong> batted first and made 203/6 in their 35 overs. The 2 main run scorers were Jason<br />

Vermaak (54) and Ayden Poole (46)<br />

Khayelitsha were bowled out for 65/10 thanks to excellent spin bowling by Liam Witten (4/9) and<br />

Jason Vermaak (3/6).<br />

Result:<br />

<strong>Fairmont</strong> won by 138 runs
