Smarter Travel Sutton really is The Biz!
The Smarter Travel Sutton Workplace
Travel Plan Team and Sutton Chamber
have been busy, working together,
talking to businesses both large and
small, to encourage them to adopt
travel plans.
TfL funding is available for businesses who
introduce home working, walking or cycling
to work, car sharing, or making greater use
of public transport – all aimed at reducing
car usage. Businesses have been responding
with a heartening commitment to the
challenge of reducing congestion on the
borough’s roads, as Workplace Travel Plan
officer Sandria Lewindon explains.
“We have been delighted with the
really positive reactions of businesses
to our message,” says Sandria.
“Workplace Travel Plans can significantly
reduce traffic congestion in and
around businesses and of course, they
offer an excellent PR opportunity, as
they enhance the company’s image
of environmental awareness.”
Sutton Chamber and Smarter Travel Sutton
are now working in partnership to promote
the travel plan concept to businesses in
Wallington and Worcester Park. Two events
are planned for autumn. On September
12 local businesses are invited to a buffet
lunch at Wallington Library. The session
runs from 12.30-2pm and includes a short
presentation on Workplace Travel Plans.
Lewindon (Smarter Travel Sutton), David Barber (Barclays Bank), Susan Bourke
(Woolworths), Paul Cawthorne (Sutton Chamber) and Tim Carter (TfL)
On October 24 the focus of attention
switches to Worcester Park, where two
sessions are planned at the library: a buffet
lunch from 12.30 to 2pm and a cheese and
wine event from 6 to 7pm.
“If you have a business in Wallington
or Worcester Park and you would like
to find out how to improve staff health,
reduce traffic congestion and improve your
corporate social responsibility, contact
Smarter Travel Sutton or the chamber,” says
Lewindon. “Invitations are on a ‘first come,

first serve basis, so don’t delay in getting
back to us.”
The benefits of adopting a workplace
travel plan extend beyond staff health and
morale and corporate social responsibility.
Many councils and government organisations
prefer to work with companies with good
environmental credentials.
