Paul Bowerbank of Swindon and District Bonsai
Society, sends us a report on the recognition of
fellow member Terry Adams. Below is an extract.
In addition to almost one hundred superb trees at the recent Best of
British Bonsai exhibition, this remarkable piece of work captured the
imagination of many visitors. Created and sculptured by the talented
Paul Finch, it is entirely man made. The trunk is of well styled clay
with plastic artificial foliage. At almost a full English yard wide, I am
told it is a replica of a genuine bonsai by Kevin Wilson. In any event it
is truly stunning….could this bring the end of bonsai as we know it!
Terry Adams has been presented the Federation of British
Bonsai (FoBBS) Award for distinguished service to the art, craft
and science of bonsai.
He is a well established bonsai artist and renowned for his
dedication and attention to detail with the development of his
trees. Many of his trees are then displayed at all the main
bonsai events throughout the Southern part of England, Wales
and Europe.
He has been a great promoter of British native trees as
bonsai and has demonstrated a great flare for his artistic
representation of actual trees in nature. He has then taken his
study of trees in nature to a new level by giving instructional
lectures on the subject. He now joins Reg Bolton (Swindon
Hon. President) in this accolade and deservedly so. He is now
a lifelong member of FoBBS who were awarded the Royal
Horticultural Society ‘Holford Medal’ for their display at
Chelsea, for the best amateur display in all the Royal
Horticultural shows in 2010. The majority of the trees in the
display were owned and exhibited by Swindon and District
Bonsai Society.
Another display at the BoBB this year by Ian Stewardson,
features a large White pine with a scroll encouraging us to
enjoy the spring full moon, whilst sitting under the blossom. A
well considered perfect seasonal presentation, which is
starting to take root throughout the Western bonsai
communities.
