<strong>Gardiners</strong> <strong>Avenue</strong> <strong>PTA</strong> <strong>Committee</strong> <strong>Descriptions</strong><br />

• Arts in Education - Cultural Arts: <strong>Committee</strong> is responsible for selecting<br />

assemblies and working with staff to schedule them for the school year.<br />

• Audit <strong>Committee</strong>:<br />

• Beatification: <strong>Committee</strong> is responsible for planting flowers and plants on<br />

school grounds.<br />

• Blood Drive: <strong>Committee</strong> is responsible for encouraging our schools blood<br />

drive participation at LMEC twice a year.<br />

• BOE: <strong>Committee</strong> is responsible for attending Board of Education Meetings.<br />

• Boo Breakfast for Kindergarten: <strong>Committee</strong> is responsible for setting up the<br />

refreshments for the Boo Breakfast for New Kindergarten Parents.<br />

• Book Fair/Back School Book Fair: <strong>Committee</strong> is responsible for ordering,<br />

checking inventory, and helping the students select books at our week long fair.<br />

• Box Top For Education/Campbell Soup Labels: <strong>Committee</strong> is responsible for<br />

submitting Box Tops & Campbell Soup Labels collected from our families.<br />

• Budget <strong>Committee</strong>:<br />

• By-Laws/Procedure <strong>Committee</strong>:<br />

• Council Budget <strong>Committee</strong>: <strong>Committee</strong> members bring the needs of <strong>Gardiners</strong> <strong>Avenue</strong><br />

to the table at a district meeting monthly.<br />

• Dollars for Scholars: <strong>Committee</strong> is responsible for collecting funds and bringing them to<br />

the district meetings. The money is used for scholarships for seniors in our district.<br />

• Elementary Curriculum: <strong>Committee</strong> meets once a month to discuss current educational<br />

topics at the elementary level.<br />

• Field Day/Fun Day: <strong>Committee</strong> is responsible for working with school staff to organize<br />

the events. They also order the t-shirts to be worn that day.<br />

• Food Service: <strong>Committee</strong> is responsible for bringing concerns in regard to the food that<br />

is offered in our cafeteria to the monthly meeting.<br />

• Health & Safety: <strong>Committee</strong> is responsible for meeting once monthly at LMEC. Report<br />

back to the board the latest health and safety issues that are discussed.<br />

• Holiday Boutique: <strong>Committee</strong> is responsible for a week long holiday shopping event<br />

held at our school. The committee selects the items and labels them with prices tags.<br />

They also help the children select items to purchase.<br />

• Honorary Life: Honorary Life is an award given by New York State <strong>PTA</strong> to a community<br />

member who goes above and beyond for our children. The committee is responsible for<br />

requesting letters of nominations from <strong>PTA</strong> members and choosing the winner.<br />

• Hospitality: <strong>Committee</strong> is responsible for setting up the refreshments before each <strong>PTA</strong><br />

meeting.<br />

• Kindergarten Orientation: <strong>Committee</strong> is responsible for setting up refreshments and<br />

helping out with Kindergarten Orientation.<br />

• Kindergarten Pre-School: <strong>Committee</strong> is responsible for introducing the incoming<br />

Kindergartners <strong>Gardiners</strong> <strong>Avenue</strong> prior to them starting their school year.<br />

• LEADD: <strong>Levittown</strong> Education Against Destructive Decisions. <strong>Committee</strong> is responsible<br />

for running the booth at the LEADD Fair and working with staff members to coordinate<br />

programs for the children that promote healthy decision making during this week long<br />

event.<br />

• Math Week -<br />

• Membership: <strong>Committee</strong> is responsible for collecting dues, filling out membership cards<br />

and encouraging everyone to join <strong>PTA</strong>.<br />

• Nominating <strong>Committee</strong>:<br />

• Nutrition Week: <strong>Committee</strong> is responsible for the purchase of healthy snacks.<br />

Volunteers are needed to help cut, peel and prepare the snacks as well as<br />

serve them to the children.


• PARP: <strong>Committee</strong> is responsible for establishing ideas to coordinate with a yearly theme.<br />

They also keep track of the three week reading contest. Author/Illustrator night is handled<br />

by this committee also; this involves inviting local Authors to our school & Teachers to<br />

Read.<br />

• Picture Day/Spring Picture Day: <strong>Committee</strong> coordinates the scheduling for the week.<br />

(New Company – committee responsibility to follow)<br />

• Plant Sale: <strong>Committee</strong> is responsible for organizing a week long plant sale in May.<br />

<strong>Committee</strong> needs to help unload the flowers off the truck.<br />

• Red Ribbon Week: <strong>Committee</strong> is responsible for organizing a themed, weeklong<br />

promotion of healthy lifestyle choices.<br />

• Reflections: <strong>Committee</strong> is responsible for supporting the yearly theme of New York<br />

State <strong>PTA</strong>. They coordinate and submit all entries collected from our students.<br />

• School Kitz: <strong>Committee</strong> is responsible for taking orders for school supply kits and<br />

distributing the orders when they come in over the summer. The teachers let the<br />

committee know what supplies will be needed for each grade.<br />

• Secondary Curriculum: <strong>Committee</strong> meets once a month to discuss current education<br />

topics at the secondary level.<br />

• SE<strong>PTA</strong>: Special Education Parent Teacher Association. <strong>Committee</strong> members work with<br />

SE<strong>PTA</strong> and discuss Special Ed issues.<br />

• Science <strong>Committee</strong>:<br />

• Smoke House: <strong>Committee</strong> is responsible for contacting fire department and setting up<br />

day for smoke house.<br />

• Spirit wear: <strong>Committee</strong> responsible for placing orders on various items and distributing<br />

them when they arrive.<br />

• Teacher Appreciation: <strong>Committee</strong> is responsible for coordinating the luncheon to honor<br />

our staff.<br />

• Thanksgiving Food Drive: <strong>Committee</strong> responsible for collecting and putting together<br />

Food Baskets for Less fortunate families in the school.<br />

5 th Grade <strong>Committee</strong><br />

<strong>Committee</strong> will be responsible for all 5th grade events. Several lead chairpersons are needed to<br />

oversee the numerous sub-committees that encompass this event.<br />

• Newsletter: <strong>Committee</strong> is responsible for collecting news from classrooms, <strong>PTA</strong><br />

• Website: <strong>Committee</strong> members are responsible for keeping our webpage on the district<br />

website filled with up to date information and photos. (Get Monthly Minutes from<br />

Secretary to Post ON Web Page)<br />

• Bulletin Board: <strong>Committee</strong> is responsible for updating the Main Lobby Bulletin Board on<br />

a monthly base’s with <strong>PTA</strong> Monthly Activities and Fundraisers.<br />

• <strong>Public</strong>ity/<strong>Levittown</strong> Tribune: <strong>Committee</strong> is responsible for collecting news from<br />

classrooms, <strong>PTA</strong> and other areas of interest to publish in <strong>Levittown</strong> Tribune.
