Congratulations on deciding to take up a musical instrument! Playing an instrument<br />
can be a lot of fun and is something the entire family will enjoy and be proud of.<br />
Here at <strong>Levittown</strong> <strong>Public</strong> <strong>Schools</strong>, we are dedicated to providing students with the<br />
best musical opportunities and experiences possible.<br />
In order to balance the needs of our program and provide each of our students with<br />
the optimum musical performance experience possible, please take a moment to<br />
review the choices listed below. Fourth and fifth graders must choose 3 possible<br />
instruments to learn and selections must be from both lists. Third graders are<br />
only eligible to play string instruments and therefore must select two<br />
instruments between group A and group B. String instruments are bolded<br />
in the lists below. Your final instrument assignment will be made by the instructor<br />
and will be based on availability, your preference and consideration of our district’s<br />
policy regarding balance of instrumentation.<br />

Frequently Asked Questions:<br />
When are lessons?<br />
Each student will have one small group lesson per week, during the school day.<br />
When can the students be in band or orchestra?<br />
Students may join the band or orchestra once they achieve the required level of<br />
proficiency.<br />
What about practicing?<br />
Students need to agree to regular practice at home, and need to commit to a<br />
minimum of a full year of study.<br />
What about instrument rentals?<br />
Instruments are available to rent through the district—the current cost is $75 per<br />
school year. SEND NO MONEY NOW — more information will be sent to you<br />
by your building’s music teacher in the fall.<br />
Do students receive a grade for music lessons?<br />
Students will receive grades for lessons and band or orchestra on their regular<br />
report card.<br />
When do lessons begin?<br />
Summer music lessons are available beginning in July. Otherwise, regular<br />
lessons will begin in the fall. More information will be sent to regarding summer<br />
music and regular school year lessons.
