First Week Back To School

TIME-TABLE
Firstly I would like to take this opportunity to
welcome all returning and new students to Älmhult
and the International School of Älmhult. I am very
excited to meet you and learn what you have all
been up to after the summer break.
For the new parents and students, my name is
Samuel Owiredu, and this is my third year at the
International School of Älmhult. I am from Ghana
originally, and I moved here in September 2003. I
am married to Maria and we are blessed with two
wonderful children (Nathanael and Michelle). This
year, I am the class teacher for PYP 2, alongside
Oskar who teaches Physical Education and the
Swedish class, and other specialized teachers
who will provide support in diverse ways to equip
the students with the right tools in the school
environment.
We, the ‘PYP2 family’ look forward to working with
parents and guardians this academic year with
their maximum support and collaboration.
Class Teacher: Samuel Owiredu
P.E
Physical Education will be on Tuesday
afternoons and Thursday mornings.
Please ensure your child brings a P.E. kit,
together with towel and soap.
Note: Students must come dressed in their
P.E clothes on Thursdays.
We are happy to announce that our P.E. teacher
Oscar had a baby boy on Wednesday! He will
therefore be off for two weeks and PYP 3’s P.E.
classes will be covered by our substitute teacher
Brady.
Library
we will visit the library on Fridays and
during this slot the students have the
opportunity to check out 2-3 books. Please
return the books the following Friday.
Swedish
Katarina, who is a new teacher at the
school, will take over Swedish together
with Oscar instead of Linda who has gone
on maternity leave. During Oscar’s
paternity leave a substitute teacher called
Ella will cover his lessons. There are two
Swedish lessons per week.
Music
Kevin will continue to teach Music once a
week.

DATES FOR THE CALENDAR
Healthy Eating Policy
To adhere the school and Kommun's
healthy eating policy, we would
appreciate that children do not bring
cakes or candy for birthdays.
Please do not send any nuts for snack
due to allergies.
Homework will be issued on Fridays
with the view to be returned on
Thursdays - commencing next Friday
(30 th August) and to be returned
Thursday 5 th September. All
homework will be contained within a
blue A4 folder.
School is closed on September 19 th due
to a teacher training day.
Class Representative for PTA
The PTA has requested a parent volunteer from
each class who is willing to help out with social
activities and fund raising. The role will be
explained further at the next PTA meeting. If
you are interested, please send me an e-mail!
The three-way conferences will take
place during week 42 and 43. During
these meetings we will set up an
Individual Development Plan for each
student.
Progress Reports will be sent out at
the end of the school year.
Fluoride
Beginning next week, the students will rinse
with fluoride once a week as part of the
Kommun’s health policy.
Class Buddy
NEWSLETTER
From now on onwards the school’s weekly
newsletters will be uploaded to the school’s
website www.almhult.se/english and not
sent by e-mail. You will find a link to the
‘Newsletters’ page on the left hand side on
the website.
If your child is new to PYP 2, your child will have
a ‘buddy’ (another child in the class) who helps
them to find their way around and get to know the
different class routines
