Mathematics Curriculum Objectives
Grade One
Number
At the completion of this grade, students will be able to:
a. read, write and order numbers to 100
b. count objects to 100
c. estimate number of objects to 100
d. identify simple number patterns, including even and odd numbers
e. count by twos, fives, and tens
f. understand the place value system to hundreds place and identify the
value of digits in a 2 or 3-digit number
g. have fast recall of addition facts to 10
h. compute addition and subtraction problems to 20
i. use the commutative property with addition and understand the
relationship between addition and subtraction
j. use addition and subtraction equations to find unknown quantities
k. understand the concept of multiplication and division in an informal
problem situation
l. use fraction names like half, third, fourth, etc. to describe part and whole
relationships
m. count money using Swedish coins and model purchasing
Measurement
At the completion of this grade, students will be able to:
a. estimate and measure length using meters and centimeters
b. estimate and measure capacity using liters and deciliters
c. estimate and measure mass using kilograms
d. estimate and measure temperature using Celsius degrees
e. read and understand time on a face clock to 30 minute intervals
Geometry
At the completion of this grade, students will be able to:
a. recognize symmetry and use it in diagramming

. sort, describe and name basic 2-D shapes: triangle, square, rectangle,
circle
Statistics
At the completion of this grade, students will be able to:
a. use the concept of sets and subsets
b. take a survey, tally data, and fill in a simple graph to show conclusions
c. read and interpret a simple graph or data sheet
d. predict the likelihood of a series of events
