GSN Interviews Louis R. Hughes
Continued from page 19
came through personal use, but I
am saying, get rid of the risk of
personal use. Why not?
GSN: Is WorkPlay Technology
easy to implement?
LH: Yes. It’s a core technology
you can adapt to any ARM
device, which in the mobile
world are very common. But I
think the more telling answer is,
our core technology is small, just
several thousand lines of code.
That’s not much when you look
at the size of other containerization
methods. This is important
because the code is pretty easy
to evaluate, modify and support.
The underlying technology was
validated for us by a NIST-certifying
lab, Cygnacom. So it is not a
large or long exercise to fit it into
the majority of existing hardware
platforms.
GSN: What about cost?
LH: We expect to make it
quite inexpensive to the user customer
- - imagine dividing your
tablet into a Work tablet and a
Play tablet, for just a few extra
dollars.
GSN: How do you plan to
get it implemented?
LH: We work with chip
makers, OEMs and large customers
who want it, like the government,
or should want it. We can
integrate it into existing devices
in the field or new production
devices. It’s just a simple way of
eliminating a dilemma between
using a device for business and
personal use, or any other reason
for separating data, like between
classified and unclassified information.
And when it is implemented
there’s no downside to
the user, there are just two real
devices in one. Our view is, why
not if you can?
GSN: Has the marketplace
had a chance to evaluate and respond?
LH: We’ve both proven and
demonstrated WorkPlay Technology’s
validity, effectiveness
and ease of use to our potential
partner-customers. We have
agencies, chip makers, OEMs and
large cyber technology providers
we are in various degrees of serious
discussion with right now.
Each of these has its own needs
and wants, and our mission is to
make it easy and satisfy them. It
is important to make it as easy
as possible for the end users, especially
government and critical
41
enterprises, to seamlessly be able
to benefit from WorkPlay Technology
to, as I said, eliminate half
the problem.
GSN: Thanks, Lou. If the
old saying is true that “All work
and no play makes Jack a dull
boy,” it looks like you may have
found a solution for a lot of potential
workaholics.
Louis R. Hughes is the former
