• Wear eye protection when using power tools or when engaging in<br />
hazardous occupations or activities<br />
• Follow coaches’ and trainers’ advice regarding safety equipment specific to<br />
each sport, especially contact sports<br />
• Small children should not be allowed to handle sharp objects<br />
• Have an eye examination annually:<br />
• If you have Diabetes<br />
• If you are of African-American heritage and are over 40 years of age<br />
(you are at increased risk for Glaucoma)<br />
• If you are Caucasian and over 60 years old (your risk for age-related<br />
eye diseases increases after the age of 60)<br />
• If you’ve been told by your eye doctor that you are at risk for<br />
Glaucoma, Macular Degeneration, or other sight-threatening eye<br />
diseases<br />
• If treatment for an eye condition has been recommended to you by your<br />
eye doctor, continue with it to prevent vision loss.<br />
