ABOUT THE PROGRAM<br />
The <strong>Educational</strong> <strong>Leadership</strong> Program at Richard <strong>Stockton</strong> <strong>College</strong> reflects current research that educational leaders must be prepared to lead schools<br />
to higher student achievement. The <strong>Educational</strong> <strong>Leadership</strong> Program is designed to develop educators <strong>in</strong>to <strong>in</strong>structional leaders who:<br />
• Provide vision for the future<br />
• Create a culture for learn<strong>in</strong>g<br />
• Manage resources, time, and leadership<br />
• Collaborate with coworkers, families, and the community<br />
• Serve ethically, justly, and accountably<br />
• Advocate for learners at the local, state, and national levels<br />
As such, the mission <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Master</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>Educational</strong> <strong>Leadership</strong> Program is to prepare educational pr<strong>of</strong>essionals to acquire and/or ref<strong>in</strong>e<br />
leadership and supervisory skills that will prepare them to assume successful positions <strong>in</strong> educational organizations. New Jersey Department <strong>of</strong><br />
Education Licensure Code requires three years <strong>of</strong> successful teach<strong>in</strong>g and/or educational services experience as a requirement for apply<strong>in</strong>g to the State<br />
for a Supervisor certificate and five years <strong>of</strong> successful teach<strong>in</strong>g and/or educational services experience as a requirement for apply<strong>in</strong>g to the State for a<br />
Pr<strong>in</strong>cipal certificate. The school leader candidate will have to possess a valid provisional or standard certificate and a <strong>Master</strong>’s degree.<br />

ADMISSIONS CRITERIA<br />
To be considered for admission to the <strong>Master</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>Educational</strong> <strong>Leadership</strong> program, applicants must submit the follow<strong>in</strong>g:<br />
• Complete on-l<strong>in</strong>e application;<br />
• Baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited <strong>in</strong>stitution (<strong>of</strong>ficial transcripts from all colleges attended are required);<br />
• A m<strong>in</strong>imum undergraduate GPA <strong>of</strong> 3.0 <strong>in</strong> a completed post-baccalaureate teacher certification or <strong>Master</strong>’s degree<br />
program;<br />
• The Graduate Record Exam<strong>in</strong>ation (GRE) General Exam (School Code 2889) or Miller Analogies Test scores (MAT)<br />
(School Code 1391). Scores should be submitted from a test taken with<strong>in</strong> the past ten years;<br />
• Three years <strong>of</strong> successful teach<strong>in</strong>g experience under Provisional and/or Standard certificate;<br />
• Three current letters <strong>of</strong> recommendation written specifically for admission to the <strong>MAEL</strong> Program from current or former<br />
adm<strong>in</strong>istrators familiar with your work who can comment on your background, experiences, capacity to succeed, etc.<br />
Employers, supervisors, super<strong>in</strong>tendents, pr<strong>in</strong>cipals, or other pr<strong>of</strong>essionals are appropriate choices; friends, family or<br />
fellow students are not;<br />
• Copies <strong>of</strong> all P-12 teach<strong>in</strong>g certificates;<br />
• A current resume;<br />
• Completion <strong>of</strong> the Graduate Application Essay (the standard essay for admission to the graduate school). In 500 words<br />
or less, describe your life experiences and unique characteristics that would contribute to your becom<strong>in</strong>g an outstand<strong>in</strong>g<br />
pr<strong>of</strong>essional <strong>in</strong> your chosen field <strong>of</strong> study; and<br />
• Completion <strong>of</strong> the <strong>MAEL</strong> Program Essays.
THE CURRICULUM<br />
The <strong>Master</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>Educational</strong> <strong>Leadership</strong> (<strong>MAEL</strong>)<br />
The <strong>Master</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>Educational</strong> <strong>Leadership</strong> requires a total <strong>of</strong> 36 graduate credits. Of the 36 total credits required,<br />
30 credits consist <strong>of</strong> coursework <strong>in</strong> the follow<strong>in</strong>g topical areas: school policy and procedure, school law and f<strong>in</strong>ance,<br />
<strong>in</strong>structional assessment and supervision, curriculum design and evaluation, and educational leadership. Pr<strong>in</strong>cipal<br />
certification requires 300 hours <strong>of</strong> <strong>in</strong>ternship <strong>in</strong> a school. The 6 credits <strong>of</strong> <strong>in</strong>ternship are conducted cont<strong>in</strong>uously over a<br />
three semester cycle. Interns will have opportunities to demonstrate their positive impact on a school community as future<br />
education leaders and document their activities <strong>in</strong> a f<strong>in</strong>al report <strong>of</strong> their leadership actions <strong>in</strong> the field.<br />

In addition to complet<strong>in</strong>g course and <strong>in</strong>ternship requirements, for Pr<strong>in</strong>cipal<br />

How long will it take to complete the program?<br />
The <strong>MAEL</strong> program at <strong>Stockton</strong> was designed to be completed over a three year<br />
period. Depend<strong>in</strong>g upon prior coursework, student preferences, and available<br />
course <strong>of</strong>fer<strong>in</strong>gs, the program can be completed <strong>in</strong> less time.<br />
