2. Introductions and Apologies
All were welcomed to the meeting. David and the team at the Gospel Hall
were thanked for their kind support and hosting of the Community meeting.

3. Issues Arising
• Steve Tite gave a detailed update of actions from the last meeting
• Ashley Road cleansing – a resident raised the problem around Santander
Bank with cash machine slips and other paper rubbish building up which is
then urinated on late at night when people leave the pubs along Ashley Road
creating a stinking sodden mess. Kate Langdown from ECPS explained that
Ashley Road has two schedules of cleaning daily, an early and a late shift
working more or less 7 days a week. More resources had been put into the
area but Ashley Road presented a range of challenges not least of which is
the traffic. Kate agreed to refer the area around Santander Bank to the team
for special attention. Also noted as ASB in the area and unacceptable
behaviour.
• The meetings general view was that Ashley Road was a lot better, cleaner
and safer.
• The Council’s refuse service was also complimented – Kate to feedback to
the teams.
4. Community News and Updates
JP will be leaving his current Sergeant’s post next week (4/4/11) to become a
Deputy Neighbourhood Inspector for Poole North. He will still be involved with
policing for the Branksome and Newtown area and will introduce the new
Sergeant Simon Perry at the next meeting.
Everyone wished JP well. Cllr B Clements proposed a vote of thanks for JP’s
key role in the area and the SNT. The meeting gave a round of applause.
5. Update on Previous Period Priorities (February and March 2011)
i) Ashley Road – licensing and proper use/operation of pubs, clubs and
bars.
19 patrols, 4 licence checks – all failed. Police to continue with quarterly
random checks. To work in partnership with ECPS who will continue to
check other outlets selling alcohol e.g. Stores, off licenses etc. JP
proposed this should be a business as usual item as it requires ongoing
attention.
ii) Ashley Road – behaviour in public places, ASB, begging, street drinking
etc.
56 patrols undertaken. 5 groups spoken to, some alcohol confiscated.
One vagrant spoken to but wasn’t begging. Patrols did not find any
specific ASB of this kind going on. Noted that Ashley Road is
cosmopolitan, diverse, mixed neighbourhood with many different cultures,
communities and activities.
iii) Ashley Road – speeding, parking, inconsiderate motorists and cycling on
pavements.
1 incident. 63-foot patrols. 21 cyclists stopped and advised next time they
will receive a ticket. 2 speeding checks – no offences as speed less than
30 mph. Residents mentioned white van using a loading bay and
displaying a disabled driver blue badge. White vans using disabled bays
by Ashley Road post office to load and unload.
6. Update on Quick Wins

We set an ambitious 5 quick wins, which proved too much to achieve but
progress was made.
i) Bartlett Way door to door surveys. This was carried out in February and
involved Cllr Graham Wilson, Bryan Wood from the ASB Team. Face-to-
Face surveys were carried out and these have all been fed in to the
current results analysis to help set April – May priorities.
ii) Talbot Village EVA – Steve Tite and team will agree a date and list of
participants to undertake this with Cllr. Karen Rampton.
iii) Litter and rubbish along Ashley Road has been incorporated into
cleansing rounds and activity by ECPS
iv) Tesco Express parking and congestion very difficult to resolve – popular
store and tight road network. Police and ECPS to continue keeping eye
on it regularly – patrols go by that area most days.
v) Gorleston Road parking – Police and ECPS have not found any
problems in this area.
7. Crime Stats
JP had previously demonstrated a new web based crime comparison facility,
which we were due to incorporate regularly into the SNT meetings. However
the Government have changed this new system and it doesn’t allow
comparisons over time to see if things are getting better or worse. New
presentation is a map of activity (current) Meeting concluded that this not be
particularly helpful and recorded their disappointment at this change
nationally.
8. Face to Face Results
123 records – Top three issues raised:
a) ASB Ashley Road, Jubilee Road, Churchill Road
b) Speeding and parking – Ashley Road, Jubilee Road, St Clements
c) Burglary and theft from commercial premises (not an issue for
community priorities)
However the largest response (49) was no issues to report, which is the
highest ever for the area.
9. Priorities for next period agreed as:
a) Ashley Road – ASB, behaviour in public places etc. To include Jubilee
Road and Churchill Road areas adjacent to Ashley Road.
b) Ashley Road – cycling on pavements, poor parking, inconsiderate
driving
c) St Clements Road – speeding, parking and rat-running.
Quick Wins agreed as:
i) Dog fouling Winston Avenue – has become a particular problem for the
school walking bus.
ii) Branksome Rec – patrols to check around bench area for drinking and
drug taking.
10. Other issues/comments arising
i) Trinidad Community Centre

Thanks were given to the SNT for supporting the ‘MUGA’, which is being well
used. However young people now climbing on roof of the building to use as a
grandstand to watch sport in the MUGA.
Steve Tite to liaise with property services colleagues re: use of anti-climb
paint – need to prevent an accident ASAP.
ii) Residents have undertaken litter picks at Branksome Rec to help improve the
area – looking much better.
iii) Query re: Bourne Valley Youth club – enquiry directed to the Rossmore SNT
meeting and Thabang Thacker for the activities undertaken there.
iv) Possible problem again with litter and fly tipping at Turners Field and St Johns
church – ECPS to investigate.
v) PCSO has visited St Clements Road found parking problems when church
services happening. Rat running and speeding revolve around the cut
through to the industrial estate (to be actioned as one of the 3 priorities)
vi) Query from a resident re: use of citizen’s arrest. Police advise caution, used
as a last resort only, as can be extremely difficult to hold/restrain a
perpetrator before police can attend and deal with the matter.
Date of next meeting: May 26 th 2011 @ 3pm – Please encourage residents
to attend and continue our recent successful attendance for 2011
