Students will continue to observe rules set by the Principal for that campus. During the 2007–2008Kids Klub year the following examples of discipline approaches will be used: TIME OUT: Sitting for a determined length of time in an area that is out of the mainstream of the other children’s play and activities. During a time out, a child is to be asked to consider alternative actions that would be appropriate for solving the problem, since the action the child took did not work and made a bigger problem. A time out is also used to give a child time to “cool off ” if the child has been physically or verbally abusive. Time out does not work for every child. TIME OUT LOG: The child is asked to record the answer to questions in the Time Out Log. The Site Supervisor will keep a log with a blank page for children experiencing behavior challenges. The Site Supervisor can prepare the questions ahead of time or wait and customize the questions to each incident. Should the child be too young to write their own answers, the child can draw pictures or have the Staff assist. Supervisors are to work with staff and train them to enforce this discipline procedure. This form of discipline shows the children that they are responsible for their actions. The length of this Time Out is sometimes determined by the child. Time Out Log does not work for every child. 6

Kids Klub Discipline Consequences GENERAL BEHAVIOR The Kids Klub Discipline Management Policy is designed to assist the Kids Klub staff in creating an atmoshpere that is safe and fun for all participants. Occasional misbehavior by the children enrolled is expected. These situations will be handled in accordance with the Kids Klub Discipline Management Policy as stated in the Kids Klub Staff Handbook. However, excessive misbehavior may result in one or all of the following consequences: Kids Klub Incident/Discipline Report Loss of privileges (e.g. participation in favorite activity, special event) FIGHTING Fighting between Kids Klub participants will not be tolerated. When fighting occurs, parents of all children involved will be contacted immediately. If a child is approached by another child in an aggressive manner, the child is expected to defend ones self by removing him or herself from the situation and contacting a staff member. The following actions will be taken with each child that displays physical aggression. FIRST OFFENSE Contact the parent Immediate removal from the program Kids Klub Incident/Discipline Report Parent conference ) Write a letter of apology to offended party. Parent conference with staff and/or Program Director Suspension from the program (length to be determined by Program Director) SECOND OFFENSE Contact the parent Immediate removal from the program Kids Klub Incident/Discipline report Parent conference One three-day suspension THIRD OFFENSE Contact the parent Immediate removal from the program Kids Klub Incident/Discipline Report Parent conference One two-week suspension FOURTH OFFENSE Immediate removal from the program Expelled from the program for the remainder of the semester or school year.
