Make a “Healthy Lifestyles” binder of one page article summaries relating to teen health issues that<br />
<strong>pe</strong>rtain to you. The binder should include a minimum of fifteen article summaries from newspa<strong>pe</strong>rs,<br />
magazines, or the internet. Topics may include physical, emotional, or social health issues. In the<br />
first paragraph, explain why you chose the article and how it <strong>pe</strong>rtains to you. The second paragraph<br />
should briefly explain what the article was about and the third paragraph should reflect on whether<br />
or not you feel the article will help you to <strong>make</strong> healthy lifestyle choices in the future. The articles<br />
and the summaries must be put in plastic sleeves and kept in a three ring binder.<br />
Make Power Point or Photo Story of your “Natural <strong>High</strong>s” which are the things in your life like your<br />
interests, goals, extracurricular activities, gro<strong>up</strong>s of <strong>pe</strong>ople, sports, hobbies, places, foods, etc. which<br />
keep you “drug free” and living well. Your Power Point/Photo Story should show your<br />
understanding of a natural high, why you like the things you have included in your project, and why<br />
these things help s<strong>up</strong>port your physical, mental and emotional health to keep you living well.<br />
Join a gym. Keep logs (verified by gym staff) of the days and times you work out. You must verify<br />
a minimum of twenty hours.<br />
Purchase a home exercise video and complete a minimum of twenty hours of home exercise verified<br />
by a parent and entered into a log.<br />
Become a S<strong>pe</strong>cial Olympics Volunteer and devote a minimum of twenty hours to S<strong>pe</strong>cial Olympics<br />
activities. Keep a log which is verified by the coach.<br />
Volunteer your time in an after school daycare or preschool program. Help the teacher with physical<br />
activities with the children. Keep a log, which is verified by the teacher.<br />
Come <strong>up</strong> with another creative option which involves a minimum of twenty hours of physical or<br />
health related activity. Suggestions might include choreographing your own dance/fitness routine<br />
and teaching it to elementary school students, creating a PE/Health board game and playing it with<br />
some friends or relatives. Get your idea approved by your PE teacher first. Write the activity below:<br />

interest to you. Topics may include physical, emotional, or social health issues. In the first<br />

Some ideas on topics might be women in sports, sports injuries, salaries of professional athletes,<br />
pressure on children to excel in sports, sports figures as role models, etc. etc.<br />
Write a song or poem about a teen health issue. Some topics might include <strong>pe</strong>er pressure, drug<br />
addiction, loss, grief, anger, frustration, violence, etc.<br />
Make a collage that shows all the issues a typical teenager might worry about in one week<br />
Write a jingle or ad campaign to <strong>make</strong> kids aware of the dangers of smoking<br />
Design a game to use with an elementary student which emphasizes healthy habits.<br />
Interview one of the school police officers about a topic of interest to yourself. Write a short<br />
summary of that interview.<br />
Research a topic such as drunk driving, drug abuse, suicide, smoking cessation programs, teen<br />
pregnancy on the internet. Cite 3 sources and list those internet addresses with a short description of<br />
what can be found there.<br />
Keep a log of everything you eat for a one-week <strong>pe</strong>riod. Analyze what was good about your diet and<br />
what could have been better.<br />
Research your favorite Olympic sport. Write a one page summary about the medal winners in that<br />
sport from the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.<br />
Research a particular medical issue and write a one page report about particular conditions, diseases,<br />
treatments, herbal s<strong>up</strong>plements, emotional conditions, medications, etc.<br />
Research s<strong>pe</strong>cific drugs (illegal or legal) and write a one page report indentifying s<strong>pe</strong>cific affects on<br />
organs of the body of using the particular substance.<br />
Calculate statistics such as batting averages, winning streaks, <strong>pe</strong>rcentages of wins/loss of your<br />
favorite sports team or figure. Then write a one paragraph summary of what you found and why you<br />
feel the statistics were or were not in their favor.<br />
