A long tradition of looking
after visitors
7
For nearly 140 years, Muskoka’s resorts and lodges
have welcomed visitors from far and wide. Many of
those resorts are still bustling today, a testament to the
region’s reputation as one of the world’s
top resort destinations.
“It gives me great pride to tell people I’m from Muskoka,”
says Rick Breckbill, whose family has owned and
operated Severn Lodge for close to 100 years.
“Muskoka has such unique and spectacular scenery,
including its huge granite rock outcroppings, windswept
pines and its hundreds of lakes and rivers. It’s just
beautiful up here.”
In addition to the region’s stunning scenery and
laidback pace of life, Breckbill believes the longevity of
so many of Muskoka’s resorts has a lot to do
with location.
“Muskoka’s worldwide appeal is due to so many things,”
he says. “But the close proximity to a major gateway
airport, coupled with its spectacular scenery, are two of
the most important reasons for its popularity.”
“But,” adds Breckbill, “as nice as it is to have world class
cities nearby, it’s always a great feeling to return
home to the peace and quiet of our lake country.
The lifestyle here simply can’t be beat.”
