New! Coach Boards for 4mm/00 British Railways Era Our first presentation in this brand-new series actually puts the onus on you to do some work! It’s our Do-It-Yourself set for the creation of destination names which we are unlikely to produce as standard items. Included in this set are sixteen stainless steel destination boards primed, painted in British Railways Western Region brown and gloss-varnished to enable you to apply the waterslide decals more easily and, if you choose, remove them and replace with a different train name or destination. Also included is a sheet of Gill Bold Capitals alphabet in white. These are reproductions of the typeface used by British railways; the transfers are, of course available separately. Class Listing 8 Diesel & Electric Locomotive Nameplate Sets Especially in the later years, British Rail’s locomotive naming policy resulted in many nameplates being transferred from engine to engine, frequently between machines of different classes. To compile a totally authoritative list at this stage would be an extremely time-consuming operation, and we have decided that, rather than delay publication of this list any further, we would indulge in some characteristic British compromise. We offer our modern image nameplate listing in two sections, as follows: Our first listing is of locomotives, by class and running number. Included are classes such as the 60s which were all named in BR days and which in privatisation have either been re-named or de-named or, indeed, have retained their BR-given names; as well as those such as the Deltics, the Warships and the Westerns the names of which remained constant throughout their lives. Our second listing is in alphabetical sequence. This provides some, but by no means all of the alternative running or TOPS numbers which may have been allocated to given machines. We do not claim that either of these lists is definitive or authoritative. There is still much work to be carried out, both in extending the scope and in the verification of numbers, colours etc. But it is correct to the best of our knowledge after having spent some two - three years (on and off) in its compilation, and given that demands for the listing forced a deadline for publication which precluded additional research. We welcome verified corrections to anything we have published. Where the name appears on the relative style of plate in CAPITAL LETTERS, it is so shown in the listing. Where it appears in Upper and Lower Case Lettering, the same applies. Where more than one running or TOPS number is shown adjacent to a given name in the listings, these numbers are not necessarily shown in sequence of allocation. As ever, it is necessary for you, the modeller, to do your homework on these matters to ensure that you are creating an accurate miniature of your selected engine. Details of crests, badges, plaques or other subsidiary plates are now provided, again in as full a manner as we have been able. Generally speaking, the higher the price, the more plaques or subsidiary plates, or the more ornate the complete set. Only a relatively small proportion carry these plaques or plates. As a footnote, you may be interested to learn that, unlike some other manufacturers, it is not our policy to delete any correct nameplate set once it has been included in our range. At the risk of boring you to tears, we must take this opportunity to stress our previously-mentioned notes on availability of etched plates. All plates are produced in large sheet form, with many different items on each sheet. Only a small number of sheets are produced in each batch. Demand for each set of plates varies dramatically, and it is not always possible, therefore, to supply customers’ requirements by return, even by swapping plate masters from sheet to sheet. Add the time taken to finish each set of plates by hand, and you have some idea of why, from time to time, we have to keep our valued customers ‘on hold’: please try to state acceptable alternatives in addition on your order if at all possible. Surprisingly, we are frequently asked whether our prices include two nameplates. The answer is YES : if the prototype carried two nameplates, then our replica set includes two. Train headboards are only sold as ‘singles’ because each train usually only carried one headboard. 50149 in Railfreight General livery only carried one warship crest - but a pair of nameplates, and that is what comes in the set. Some locomotives carry different nameplates on each side, eg 37411 carries a CAERPHILLY CASTLE plate on one side, and a plate with the Welsh translation CASTELL CAERFFILI on the other.
