Message from the Director:
The last couple of months have been busy ones here at the
Maryland Lottery. The Ravens Cash Fantasy Internet promotion
came to an exciting conclusion with the final drawings on
February 9. Thanks to your hard work the ticket has sold out
for the third year in a row.
Now with the launch of the new MONOPOLY scratch-off
we are looking forward to promoting another ticket which is
certain to attract players’ attention. With its classic board game
graphics and bonus drawings, the potential for sales is huge.
The new Strike It Rich scratch-off and Orioles promotion is also sure to strike a chord with
players. The Lottery is looking forward to partnering with the Orioles once again this year.
As we continue to incorporate innovative products and promotions, we are also working
to boost your sales performance with our new SalesMaker program. I encourage you to
read the article on page 3 of this edition of Retailer Report to learn more about this
exciting initiative. And, of course, remember your Lottery representative is always eager

Is it ok for my customers to use Lottery
ticket stock to write down their numbers?
answer:
No. Ticket stock should be used for the
express purpose of generating tickets.
The unused stock should never be left on
your counters as it may pose a security risk.
In fact, all unused ticket stock should be
promptly discarded in a secure manner,
preferably by shredding, to prevent the
possibility of its misuse.

The Kangs have made many changes and upgrades to their
Lottery operation since first opening their doors. Their
scratch-off selection has grown from 20 to 60 instant facings.
Keno and Racetrax were also added to the mix of games,
doubling their Lottery business. In addition, the store
became an Agent Plus location, further improving sales.
Not content to rest on their laurels, the Kangs then added
a table and chairs to create an area where customers can sit
and enjoy their Lottery play. Throwing their own Keno and
Ravens Cash Fantasy parties have also been part of the Kangs’
strategy to draw attention to their Lottery operation.
The Kangs have been very proactive in promoting their
Lottery business. It has paid off – literally.

SalesMaker Seminars
In the Spotlight. . .
Steady Growth for Quik Mart citgo in annapolis
More scratch-offs, more terminal games and more
attention to their customers ...Quik Mart Citgo in
Annapolis has more than quadrupled their ten-week
sales average. Located at 2042 West St., Quik Mart has
grown to be the area’s largest Lottery agent. Owners
Wan and Sun Kang purchased the store in March 2002.
In 2004, their ten-week sales average was $8,000. Now
that average is $47,000.
Looking to get more from your Lottery sales? Beginning in March, the
Maryland Lottery, in partnership with Scientific Games, will hold a series
of SalesMaker seminars. Designed to increase awareness and drive sales
of Lottery products, program topics include: profit per square foot analysis,
proper merchandising of instant tickets, winner awareness signage, customer
traffic patterns, and “Ask for the Sale” techniques.
The seminar will be led by Jeff Sinacori, Vice President of Retail Development
for Scientific Games. Jeff is a former New York Lottery independent retailer who increased sales from
$500,000 to over $5 million annually, making his store one of the top-selling Lottery locations worldwide.
“We’re extremely pleased to offer this unique program to our retail partners,” said John Martin, Assistant
Director for the Lottery. “Every retailer can benefit from the tips and techniques Jeff shares. We’re looking
forward to helping our retail partners increase their return on their Lottery investment.”

the hunt is on for fun & Prizes
with the $2 Million Logo hunt
This popular promotion is making a comeback. From February 27
through April 1, players who collect all three Lottery symbols
(wishbone, circle and starburst) on their terminal tickets can mail
them in for the chance to win up to $250,000! Players should also
be on the lookout for instant vouchers for up to $10 in free play!
On February 9, 2012, Maryland added another millionaire
to the mix. John Menzel from Salisbury was selected from
more than 91,000 entries as the $1 million winner from the
Ravens Cash Fantasy Internet promotion. Vanessa Williams
from White Marsh won season tickets for life (20 years).
Other big winners were drawn during the final drawing. For

Lottery Pitches Perfect Game
with New orioles Promotion
The Lottery and the Baltimore Orioles will once again join forces with a
baseball-themed promotion. The Strike it Rich scratch-off, which launches
on April 2, will be at the center of this initiative. The ticket plays just like
last year’s Double Play scratch-off, with a $50,000 top prize and additional
chances to win on the back of the ticket. Be sure to give players back
their non-winning tickets so they can enter them into the second-chance
contest for cash and cool Orioles experiential prizes.

New Signs Promote Jackpots
Some retailers have been selected to receive a digital dual jackpot sign
for outward-facing display in the store windows. These brightly-lit signs
display jackpot amounts for both Mega Millions and Powerball. Current
supplies are limited and retailers must meet jackpot sales guidelines to
