Smoke-Free School Policy
Under a policy implemented by the Board of Education, and in accordance
with NYS law, smoking by students and staff is prohibited in all
Commack School District buildings and facilities.
This policy reflects the Board's concern following published studies that
secondary smoke has adverse effects on non-smokers as well as smokers.
The smoke-free schools policy is in keeping with the district's commitment
to educate its students to the dangers of substance abuse, including
alcohol and smoking, and the hope that such a policy will set an example
for all students and staff.
Inclement Weather
A delayed school opening procedure on inclement weather days will be
used when it appears that schools can open safely at a later time. Opening
will be delayed for one or two hours later than the usual schedule.
Schools shall adjust their school day accordingly, so that dismissal is at
the usual time. Children will be transported back home on the usual
transportation schedule.
School closings or delayed openings will be posted on the Commack
Website, http://www.commackschools.org. The District will endeavor to
place an automated telephone call to each household with school aged
children. The District cannot guarantee that all households will be
reached. If you have signed up for the Parent Portal or Email Notification,
you will be notified by Email, as well.
Parents are encouraged to listen to the stations listed below for closing
and delayed opening information. In the absence of any announcement,
call, Email, or posting, it should be assumed that schools are open.
Residents are urged not to call the school or the District switchboard so
that we may be permitted to handle the expected high volume of emergency
calls.
