Master Gunnery Sergeant Carroll<br />

F. Hersey was born in <strong>Wolfeboro</strong> in<br />

1928. As a youngster he spent many<br />

hours skiing at Abenaki. In fact, he<br />

was one <strong>of</strong> the first to shi here. He<br />

especially enjoyed jumping on the<br />

original jump built in 1942.<br />

At the age <strong>of</strong> seuenteen he joined<br />

the U.S. Marine Corps and made it his<br />

career for twenty-three years. He was<br />

killed in a mid-air plane crash during<br />

a refueling operation ouer Viet Nam<br />

on May 18, 1969.
